Microsoft and OpenAI collaborate on $100B U.S. data center #technology 🤝 Follow us on Discord 🔜: https://lnkd.in/gt823Zd3 🤝 Follow us on Whatsapp 🔜 https://wapia.in/wabeta _ ❇️ Summary: Microsoft and OpenAI are partnering on a new AI super-computer data center project called Stargate, costing over $115 billion and set to launch in 2028. The project aims to meet the increasing demands for generative artificial intelligence. Stargate's power requirements may lead to exploring nuclear power as an alternative energy source, raising concerns about the potential increase in nuclear waste. Microsoft and OpenAI need to consider the ethical and environmental implications of multiple Stargate-like data centers operating globally. More governmental policy and legislation are needed to address generative AI risks. Hashtags: #chatGPT #MicrosoftOpenAI #StargateDataCenter

Quantum computing is here! Google just announced the new Quantum chip- willow. To put into perspective, the quantum chip can process data in 5 minute that took a traditional computer 10 septillion years, or 10²⁴ years. In comparison, it “only” took the earth 4.54 billion years (4.54×10⁹ years) to form and develop life. I am both excited and fearful. I don't think this tech is going to be here that quickly. I am excited about the potential. What if it can solve nuclear fusion and provide humanity with cheap, clean unlimited energy? What if it can be use to simulate molecular interaction and drug design to cure all diseases? I am afraid because it can be used to break all encryption and compromise all modern cybersecurity systems. Quantum computing and AI will definitely catapult us to the new era of humanity. One we couldn't even imagine.

For OpenAI, Artificial Intelligence follows five stages of evolution, each expanding the system's capabilities. In its strengthening, the silicon brain imposes demands: the expansion of its physical infrastructure; absorption of thousands of gallons of fresh water daily; increased energy demand (#nuclear); data exploitation to be fed (LinkedIn); an uncontrolled ecological footprint; increasing #ewaste generation. There is no magical #AI without intensive footprints (AI is not #circular). The evolution stages of #GenAI are defined as: 🌀Chatbots: The current form of AI, where users interact through text, voice, or images and receive written, visual, or audio responses. 🌀Reasoners: The phase where AI goes beyond basic responses, advancing its reasoning capabilities. 🌀Agents: Entities capable of perceiving their environment, processing those perceptions, and acting rationally. 🌀Innovators: AIs with the ability to discover new scientific information, still unknown to humans. 🌀Complete Organization: A future where multiple AI models and systems collaborate autonomously, without human intervention. OpenAI’s latest model #o1, scored a 120 #IQ in the #Mensatest, placing it above most people. The goal is to develop agentic AI, operating with minimal or no human supervision. But this comes at a high cost ecological impact that is being imposed without much oversight: laissez-faire, laissez-passer. Major tech companies have accelerated their massive investments in generative AI. The combined capital expenditure (#Capex) of #Amazon, #Apple, #Google, #Meta, and #Microsoft approached $60 billion in Q2 of 2024 (that´s a lot of money!). Microsoft’s purchase of the Three Mile Island Unit 1 nuclear reactor in #Pennsylvania exemplifies this energy demand. The reactor will supply 835 megawatts, enough to power 800,000 homes for the next 20 years. Amazon Web Services (AWS) has fully acquired a nuclear-powered data center in Salem Township. Equinix has signed an agreement with Oklo Inc to source 500 MW of nuclear energy for its data center operations. Oracle is in the early stages of developing a new data center that will incorporate three small nuclear reactors within its facilities to power its infrastructure. OpenAI is reportedly looking to buy nuclear fusion energy from Helion. Meta is also going nuclear. The new generation of #hyperscaledatacenters requires more than 400 hectares of soil (each one). The powerful #semiconductors demand more resources throughout their lifecycle. While AI-driven #cyberspace seems boundless, it is intrinsically tied to the finite natural resources of Earth’s. As AI pushes the boundaries of what is technically possible, it also accelerates the strain on our planet’s ecological limits. #AgenticIA #ArtificialIntelligence #Nuclearenergy #EnvironmentalImpact #ClimateChange #Watercrisis #Waterfootprint #Cyberspace
