Since their introduction in the early 1980s, silicon MOSFETs have been the mainstay of power conversion technology, in particular for high frequency switching power converters. While the technology has advanced, many of the MOSFET characteristics have changed dramatically in recent years and designers need to update their knowledge base accordingly.   This seminar will cover characteristics of today’s high performance MOSFETs using their datasheets as reference. Instead of explaining away datasheet numbers line by line, we will be grouping them functionally, explain how they are characterized by the manufacturers and how they should be interpreted for real world applications. Unique features such as extremely nonlinear capacitances and body diode behavior will be discussed in depth. MOSFET datasheets carry a number of legacy parameters, specifically those relating to current and power ratings, that are no longer relevant in today’s design environments. These will be highlighted during the course. Designers will get a clear idea which numbers or curve they need to look up in the datasheet, and the impact those numbers will have on their design. A large number of misconceptions have accumulated over the years, in addition to legacy notions that need to be discarded. Designers will learn how to navigate around the misconceptions and avoid common design errors.   Recently there has been an explosive growth in power applications besides high frequency switching, such as motor control and automotive electronics. Today’s designers are a diverse group, with different backgrounds and different levels of exposure to power conversion practices. The seminar is aimed at MOSFET users in all these application areas and designed to be useful to engineers both at the intermediate and advanced levels. 

Really enjoyable session at #WMXEurope today - New Age of Customer-Centric Logistics with some great subject experts: Patrick Frith of Avalara showed how the tricky world of x-border (thanks Boris☹️) can be circumnavigated with clever tech and a dedicated focus on customer experience. Marc Sarmiento showed why he is the 'Q' of Österreichische Post AG with some great customer segmentation and applied solutions from his box of tricks..... and I forgive him for putting me in older segment 😉. Matthew Jacques showed why ZigZag Global are the absolute experts in structured returns solutions with great insight into customer requirements and the interesting inter-relationship with merchant priorities....and now I know what 'reventory' is 😃. Last but not least Misko Kancko from Canada Post / Postes Canada showed he is not only an expert in Scottish Malt Whisky 🥃 but highlighted why top down leadership was imperative in driving a truly customer-centric organisation. The European Commission gathers 25 EOSC-related projects to align on the next steps for EOSC implementation On 20-21 June 2024 in Brussels, the European Commission, represented by DG for Research and Innovation, DG for Communications Networks Content and Technology, and the European Research Executive Agency (REA), organised the 2024 annual Coordination meeting of #EOSC-related projects funded under #HorizonEurope. Representatives of the 25 projects were informed about the status of development of the EOSC EU Node and the EOSC Federation. It was underscored that EOSC plays a pivotal role in establishing the European Digital #SingleMarket, in particular the creation of a European #KnowledgeCommons, as described in the Enrico Letta report. The seven #INFRAEOSC projects launched in 2023 presented their objectives and work plans, and the concept of cross-project collaboration within the recently launched EOSC Opportunity Area Expert Groups was explained. 📣 From 4-6 September, I had the pleasure of attending the yearly Baltic NCP meeting, where one of the main agenda points was discussing how to enhance cooperation between NCPs and liaison offices in Brussels. We all agreed that we are working towards a common goal: to boost #internationalcollaboration. As three small but resilient and highly skilled countries 🇱🇹🇱🇻🇪🇪, working together multiplies our strengths as we aim to be more visible on the European stage🇪🇺 in #research and #innovation domain. 🤝There are already great examples of cooperation between NCPs and Baltic liaison offices in Brussels, and we’re eager to build on this to help our researchers and innovators access #HorizonEurope and other #EU initiatives. In addition, we had a very enriching exchange of views on topics such as Baltic positions on FP10, widening measures, success stories from University of Tartu, visiting the Estonian Genome Centre, and plenty of networking and catching up. ✔️I would like to conclude this post with a quote once said by H.E. Luccock: “No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play it.
