Spotting red flags in a job offer can save you time and trouble—here’s what to watch for. 🚩 One major warning sign? A sudden shift in the role after you apply. If the job description changes by the time you’re invited to interview, approach it with maximum skepticism. Attend if you’re curious, but be ready to walk away if the role isn’t what you signed up for. Another red flag to watch for: Scammers often prey on our desires by offering the perfect job. A high-paying remote role, or a quick path to success. They know our guard might drop when something we’ve always wanted suddenly feels within reach. If it seems too good to be true, it’s worth investigating. A simple hello, asking how they were doing, offering help, or just lending a listening ear was her way of coping with the trauma her husband and she were going through. Sometimes, the others seemed to be okay, yet every day, there was at least one person she could comfort. She would always ask if they needed a hug, and if they said yes, it seemed to help both of them. It's been her experience that when you reach out to be there for someone else, it truly matters. She didn't know the people in the waiting room with her, but all of them were all there for the same reason: someone they loved was in critical condition. Everyone was worried and fearful, but she knew she had to stay calm and helpful to get through it with them. Yes, she did this for them, and she did it for herself. They bonded together. By listening to their stories and sharing her, they gave each other courage, strength, and hope. If you’re waiting for employers, or others to give you what you want — that day will rarely come. The truth is, to get what you want you have to ask. The biggest one I see is with job offers. Most people think that if they ask for more money the employer will rescind the offer. This is isn’t remotely accurate it’s fear that the corporation wants you to feel so you’ll work for less. If they won’t give you more money, ask for better work hours, more PTO and even better ask for certain job responsibilities to be removed. When I was in tech I kicked myself for not asking for 24/7 on-call duties written out of my employment contract. One role didn’t work out because of on-call, this could have saved my job!
