"South Africa’s business capital is considering tighter water curbs as it battles to maintain ageing infrastructure and cope with increased demand. The city of Johannesburg currently has level 1 restrictions in place, which prohibit consumers from irrigating their gardens and using municipal water to clean paved areas at their residences between 06h00 and 18h00. Those measures are “not entirely effective,” Johannesburg Water Operations Manager Logan Munsamy said in remarks aired by broadcaster Newzroom Afrika." I love the rainy season and the cool breeze it brings 💕 But have you seen our streets after it rains? It's a mess, and the way our houses are built exacerbates the issue. The last SDG I'd love to discuss is Sustainable Cities and Communities. Urbanization and planning, slum upgrading and affordable housing, resilience to disasters, waste management, and pollution control... Honestly, these issues need urgent attention. You know, most times we just blame the government for everything, even the faults in our houses and buildings. Let's face it, guys, it's not new, but change starts with you. Simple things like keeping your house clean, proper waste disposal, and hiring the right experts to build your houses and buildings. It's start with the simple and less significant factors Let's make Nigeria beautiful. In this rainy season, a little advice from She0pe: keep a clean environment; this might reduce the rate of erosion and flooding. Happy Weekend! 💕 ©️ She0pe #RainySeason #CleanEnvironment #SustainableCities #UrbanPlanning #WasteManagement #BuildingStandards #She0pe #WeekendVibes #200DaysWritingChallenge #Day82

Kenya, a country blessed with natural beauty and vibrant culture, faces a daunting challenge that threatens the well-being of its people and the sustainability of its communities: water scarcity. In a land where over 80% is classified as arid or semi-arid, access to clean water is not just there. The Harsh Reality of Water Scarcity: Water scarcity in Kenya is not a distant threat but a daily struggle for survival. According to Water. org, more than 41% of the population lacks access to safe water, forcing communities to rely on unreliable and often contaminated sources. The situation is exacerbated by the erratic cycles of floods and droughts, population growth, and the unequal distribution of water resources across the country. https://lnkd.in/eEFKr_yr

The Rand Water Board in South Africa has issued a dire warning: Water storage levels throughout Gauteng Province have significantly declined due to excessive water withdrawals by municipalities, raising serious concerns. This warning comes as the main water supply to South Africa’s economic hub, greater Johannesburg in the Gauteng province, and to the country’s breadbasket in the Free State, has been cut off for six months while maintenance work is carried out on the 37km Lesotho Highlands Water Project tunnel. #gauteng #southafrica #watercrisis #potablewater #watermanagement #municipalities https://lnkd.in/g_any-26

Ensuring Water Resilience in #Amalner! Amalner has faced a persistent water crisis, severely impacting its vulnerable slum communities. Recognizing the urgent need for action, MHT is committed to addressing this critical issue. The vulnerable communities are most affected due to open defecation and water scarcity. MHT has already implemented the ‘Making Amalner Open Defecation Free’ programme. To sustain the open defecation free (ODF) status of Amalner city and improve water resilience among poor communities, it was imperative to prepare a slum water resilience plan. Supported by HSBC, MHT remains dedicated to enhancing water access and sustainability in 12 slums of Amalner city. Follow MHT to discover how we're empowering communities for a brighter and water-secure future. #MHTImpact #WaterCrisis #WaterResilience #CommunityDevelopment

Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, and it's heartening to see the American Water Works Association advocating for permanent support mechanisms for low-income households. The AWWA's push for a Low-Income Household Water Affordability Program (LIHWAP) is a testament to their commitment to water affordability and sustainability. The proposed legislation, backed by bipartisan support, aims to establish a permanent low-income water assistance program, ensuring that families struggling to access affordable drinking water and wastewater services receive the help they need. This initiative not only addresses immediate needs but also contributes to the long-term resilience of water systems against challenges like climate change and infrastructure demands. As professionals in the water industry, we understand the critical importance of investing in our water infrastructure and supporting the vulnerable segments of our society. The AWWA's efforts align with our shared vision of a world where every individual has access to safe and affordable water services. At Mott MacDonald, we are committed to building and championing a resilient water future. My contribution, or “drop in the bucket,” is to advocate for sustainable practices that ensure clean and reliable water for all. By leveraging our expertise and collaborating with communities, we can make a significant impact. This commitment is especially poignant when we consider the dire water situation in Palestine, where thousands are deprived of basic water access due to the ongoing occupation. The control and restriction of water resources have left many Palestinians with limited access to clean, drinking water, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis. As we work towards a sustainable water future, it’s crucial to remember and support those who are most vulnerable. Additionally, the Shamattawa First Nations in northern Manitoba have been under a boil water advisory for six years, severely impacting their access to clean drinking water. This long-term advisory highlights the ongoing challenges faced by many Indigenous communities in Canada. The lack of reliable water infrastructure has significant effects on the well-being of the community, underscoring the urgent need for sustainable and equitable water solutions. As we champion the cause, let’s also remember the people of Palestine and the Shamattawa First Nations, who face severe water scarcity and limited access to clean, drinking water. When we collectively raise our voices to acknowledge the importance of water // injustice, we can work towards a future where every drop // life matters. #Palestine #HumanitarianCrisis #Shamattawa #FirstNations #DrinkingWaterAdvisory #ImagineADayWithoutWater #DropInTheBucket

READ FULL STORY(Inspiring): I did a late night Rescue⛑️ | Communities quick response saved lives and reduced economic Loss. Last evening, as I was returning from my workout at the Athletic ground, I stumbled upon a heart-stopping scene: an Innova Taxi precariously hanging on the side of the road, its passengers(a family and the driver) trapped inside. Without hesitation, I sprang into action. I called for assistance, rallying the community to help stabilize the vehicle. Once we ensured its safety, we carefully pulled the family members out, reassuring them amidst their panic. Drawing upon my technical knowledge of load lifting and stabilization, we worked together to lift and secure the vehicle. The overwhelming engagement from the community was inspiring, and I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved. Moments like these remind us of the power of collective action in times of crisis. #CommunityEngagement #RoadsideRescue #CBDRM #EmergencyManagement #SafetyFirst #DisasterResponse #ResilientCommunities #BuildingBackBetter #PreparednessMatters #CommunityEmpowerment #SavingLives #HumanitarianAid #DisasterRelief #FloodPreparedness #FloodResilience #FlashFloods #RiverFlooding #FloodMitigation #WaterSafety #DRR #SendaiFramework #DisasterRiskReduction #EarlyWarningSystems #ClimateChangeAdaptation #HazardMitigation #VulnerabilityReduction #PathankotFloods #PunjabStrong #VolunteerPower #CommunityHeroes #FloodRescueTraining #NCC #nss #ecopahadi
