On Life's misfortunes... Steve Jobs, in his now famous 2005 Commencement speech at Stanford said this: “Sometimes, life hits you in the head with a brick!” Yes! Sometimes, in the course of our lives, we get some really big shocker! Like that bumper sticker: “Sh*t happens!” and you know that chaos just took over! Chaos, uncertainty and disorder are easy; they are the default modes of everything. The uncertainty principle described in Quantum Mechanics does not only affect the very small or the very large. It is at the core of life, itself! Chaos happens every time you misappropriate energy; or simply lose focus and sustained attention on your goals of the moment. At times though, we find ourselves in momentary peace and quiet, and then, we begin to feel contented and even, happy. And wish that the moment would continue forever. Often, when in that state of relative quiet & contentment… we become so scared to do anything that will disrupt the moment; because disrupting the moment, might only result in upsetting the status quo and the relative calm. And yet, when Chaos & turmoil in our lives happen, we may need to begin again... from the bottom! And start over… again… and again… and yet, again! That decision will NOT be easy…but, it will be extremely essential… because before we can move on again, changes will be necessary! And to freeze, drift and do nothing, will only allow chaos & disorder to rule and dominate our lives. During such major inflection points of our lives, we need to pause, take respite and do some serious rethinking of our goals and priorities. And yet, this is NOT the same as doing nothing! For “to-do-nothing” should be the farthest thing from your mind; because you will never change your life for the better, UNTIL you change some of those things you do daily, everyday thereafter! And then..."Let there be light!" Light makes things possible for people; and seeing opens many avenues and paths to choose from. It gives us the chance to handle and manage the moment; and the succession of moments that follow. We may not always succeed, but the chance is there. And therefore, hope can finally blossom… and a new future is possible.

Conversations like these are vital as they bring 'reports' to life. The need to expand soft skills in manufacturing was mentioned already by Deloitte in 2018. For quite some time now, investing in and prioritising soft skills during hiring as well as during student years has been highlighted as they allow companies to respond to change and are resistant to automation (World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report from 2023). Future Skills at Monash College are here to bridge the gap not only with skills-based, customised courses but also by their ability to identify and analyse what the specific gaps are. I see HR management in Malaysia developing along very unhealthy course. Almost all of us are going about being led by a rope strung through our noses. We get influenced by what others write or present without questioning their approach and motives. We allows others to dictate our values to us, just as I had written about how educated people being more irrational than the uneducated. We allow others to control our minds. Mind Control if much more dangerous than brainwashing as a tool to control people. When a person is under mind control, he no longer dares to challenge the values he has adopted because he is caused to be 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥, 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐩𝐢𝐝, 𝐮𝐧𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞, 𝘩𝘦 becomes the 𝘫𝘰𝘬𝘦 if he questions what he has adopted as the norm. With brainwashing, a person can break free as soon as the fear of physical punishment is removed. A person under mind-control often cannot break free because the wrong values have become a part of himself. He fears losing his identity and respect, among other things.

"In workplace, one needs to have the ability to play dumb." Kosmo!, 4th September 2024. I strongly disagree with this statement, as I believe a good working environment will influence people around us to be better too. If one person wants to improve themselves, they need to be open to new skills and knowledge. A toxic work environment can have a significant impact on us, as the "Play Dumb" culture typically begins with one individual and spreads to others within the department or organization. A sad scenario I notice throughout my working journey, I notice a diligent worker can be influenced by "playing dumb" culture when someone in their department of organization starts this kind of behavior. So please be careful if you guys decide to "play dumb," because it can affect the whole organization like a domino effect. If you are not happy with your salary or position wise, you know what to do. In an offer letter, there is always a clause calling for termination or resignation. A good working environment with healthy competition keeps everyone happy! https://lnkd.in/gQ9DU2KY

When she smiled. That's when you smell trouble. Aunty Prema was in her element when she moderated the latest #MKK. With her sharp eyes and strong steps, she checked if all of us were paying attention. The unlucky ones, was passed the mic. And if they cannot answer, you know what happen lar.. 😮 Tai lou Jackson Lim, despite being super hensem, sweated profusely. For those who missed it, Jackson is the co-founder of Grof, a service provider that helps businesses solve all their administrative headache. He is hensem not because he has more bulu kaki than Eric Siew. But because he helps to tapau the venue's cost on behalf of Eric's team. If that's not hensem, I don't know what is already. But hensemness doesn't mean you can escape Aunty Prema. Although we call her aunty, she's very sharp with her questioning. Trust me, you wouldn't want to debate with her. I can only pity her opponents when she was in corporate. So, you can imagine how quiet I was at the session. I blended well with the wall, and stayed safe. Next time, when I am hensem, maybe I can help tapau others. But right now, I can only ask you to find Grof if you want to outsource the most headache stuff when running a business. Go check them out. But don't let Aunty Prema catch you not paying attention lar. Do you want Aunty Prema stare you kaw kaw?
