💡#ISPOREurope spotlight - Podium: Managing and reporting missing utility data for health technology assessment (HTA). UK HTA guidelines place emphasis on consideration of uncertainty and validity of results. One common source of uncertainty, particularly for utility data, is missing data. However, there are no definitive guidelines on how to manage missing utility data in UK HTA. YHEC's Neil Hansell will be delivering a podium presentation at ISPOR—The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research Europe 2024, reporting the results of a study assessing multiple analytical methods for managing different types of missing utility data and providing recommended standards. Did you hear about the promise of Value of Information analysis, a.k.a. VOI, but does it remain a somewhat vague and distant topic? You are not alone! At the ISPOR Europe meeting in Barcelona I spoke to many people who thought the concept of VOI is interesting, but that it sounds quite complex and is not clear how the outcomes of such an analysis can be interpreted and used. To address this, I had a go at explaining the basics of VOI in this issue of Methods Explained based on a discussion with Saskia Knies and Natalia Kunst, two international experts on the topic. With VOI now being included in HTA guidelines, its use and impact is expected to increase. Hopefully, this article will be a useful resource to get started. Happy reading! How can we shape new perspectives on the societal gains of health investments? Dr. Maike Schmitt, Senior Health Economics Researcher at WifOR Institute, will chair a session on prevention policy and public investment at the European Health Economics Association Conference 2024 in Vienna, Austria. Dr. Schmitt will present WifOR’s recently developed Health ROI Assessor. The tool supports policy decision making about effective resource allocation to and within the healthcare sector. The framework was developed by WifOR’s Prof. Dr. Dennis Ostwald, Dr. Malina Müller, Karla Hernandez-Villafuerte, PhD, Dr. Jan Fries and in close collaboration with Prof. Rifat Atun from Harvard University. Using the example of a German cancer screening program, the Health ROI Assessor shows how investment in prevention translates into value creation within and beyond the Health Economy and further induces Human Capital gains in terms of paid and unpaid work productivity due to better health. We look forward to discussing with you how research might contribute to a new understanding of health investments as a driver of economic growth, employment, innovation, and, most importantly: better health for all! New study in #HSR Wiley from Heather Schacht Reisinger PhD et al uses a practical approach to examining the use of Expert Recommendations for Implementing Change (ERIC) strategies by Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, and Maintenance (RE-AIM) dimensions for rural health innovations using annual reports on a diverse array of initiatives. WHAT IS KNOWN: Implementation science theories, models, and frameworks can support the planning, implementation, evaluation, and sustainment of evidence-based programs and practices. WHAT THIS STUDY ADDS: Content analysis of readily-available organizational documents such as annual reports can be used to examine implementation strategy utilization. CONCLUSION: Combining the dimensions from the RE-AIM framework and the ERIC strategies allows for understanding the use of implementation strategies across each RE-AIM dimension. "The Health Economics Methods Advisory group (HEMA) is a new, independent group of health technology assessment agencies from the US, England and Canada that will work together to develop recommendations on adopting novel health economic methods to support decision making by health care systems. HEMA will also consider the need for modifications to current methods, the uncertainties in the application of new methods and suggestions for further research."......."According to ICER, HEMA could look at including dynamic efficiency and dynamic pricing in economic models, novel or non-traditional value in cost-effectiveness analysis and the integration of health equity considerations in quantitative analysis and deliberation." https://lnkd.in/dgrPHqrj
