"Libby Peake, head of resources at Green Alliance, said: “The government is making a political decision to push ahead with recycling reforms today, which go against global best practice. “They also contradict abundant evidence the government has collected on what a good recycling system would look like. “The changes would allow all dry recycling to be mixed together and for food and garden waste to be combined, and it would force councils to collect residual waste at least once a fortnight. This is bad news for the public, who want their efforts to recycle to count. “It’s bad news for British recycling businesses who need high-quality material to use – the paper recycling industry is warning that paper recycling rates could fall by nearly 20 percentage points by 2030 because of increasing contamination. “And, of course, it’s bad news for the environment, as it will result in wasted resources, which we can’t afford. It simply shouldn’t be this hard to get recycling right.”" https://lnkd.in/d4ibnmCr #Recycling #Collections

This most recent update sounds reasonable 🤞 however seeing TEEP creeping in is worrying. Especially for the LA's who focus entirely on not doing things if there is any way out of it. Important to note that business's that have more than 10 FTEs need to be planning for recycling...this means training and behaviour changes now to prevent contamination charges!

Simple, simpler, simplified! (Simpler Recycling Policy Update: 29 November 2024) Simpler Recycling will enable consistent, more streamlined collections from all households, businesses and relevant non-domestic premises (such as schools and hospitals). Local authorities will be able to co-collect some waste streams by default meaning that they will no longer need to collect 7 separate streams. These common-sense changes will not lead to the proliferation of bins but will ensure the same set of materials are collected everywhere in England.

The latest guidance on the roll out of the Simpler Recycling scheme. Quite interesting that it will allow the co mingled collection of green waste and food waste. However, it seems this service would need to be delivered weekly. Still no clarity on whether there is a minimum qualifying amount of food waste produced for businesses in terms of the provision of a food waste service.
