Decía mi hermosa madre: "El valiente vive hasta que el cobarde quiere." Today is Latina Equal Pay Day 🙌 Let's Activate What We Commemorate If we want to change history for good—and make it herstory too—we must take action; Otherwise, we end up with “another day” to remember while repeating the same narrative and inadvertently becoming accomplices to the status quo. Here are ten things we can do to be the change we want to see in the world: 👉 1. Know Your Worth - Be precise about who you are and what you want. Benchmark, research, and do the homework. If you want equal pay, establish your rates and be very passionate about your why. ¿Exactamente cuánto quieres? ✊ 2. Ask for Your Worth - It’s not enough to know; you must speak up, insist, and prove that you are in control of your goals and finances. When you hear "no, we don't have that money", mentally add the word "yet" at the end. Then, otro día, ask again. 🤝 3. Learn to Negotiate - Always seek a win-win outcome. Understand there is always something to trade, look for agreements, know about the laws, policies, and rules of the game. Todo es negociable. 👆 4. Set Proper Expectations - Be clear about what you want, when you want it, and your contributions to others. Ask what is expected of you, and return the courtesy. (Nobody has a magic ball). ✋ 5. Communicate Your Boundaries - Clarify what you are willing to do and what not. Know your own tolerance levels, and tell others what you can and cannot compromise (your integrity and dignity for example). Above all, respect yourself. 👐 6. Be Flexible and Adaptable - Avoid a “my way or the highway” mentality. Life is ever-changing, no es blanco y negro, adapt, pivot, and thrive. Be careful with your ego or arrogance, balance your inner Master with your inner Apprentice. 👏 7. Highlight Other Amazing Women - Lift Each Other Up; Do not compete or minimize others. We each have our own journeys, and we are all doing the work. Plus, there are so many fishes in the ocean, ¡hay para tod@s! ✌ 8. Honor Your Ancestors - Remember those who raised you (friends and family), those who fought for you to be where you are now (from Dolores Huerta to Linda Chavez, Evelyn de Jesus, Hilda Solis, Carmen Rosa, Sonia Sotomayor, Ellen Ochoa, Sylvia Rivera, and more), and those who paved the way for you (your mentors, coaches, madrinas, padrinos, champions). 👊 9. Become a Brave Advocate - Stand up for others who can’t or won’t. Do not judge them; protect the future generations, be brave, and persist. It's not enough to make it to the top, the question is "Who are you bringing with you?" 🤟 10. Above All, Love Yourself - Ámate so deeply and passionately that you don’t accept anything less. You deserve to be welcomed, cherished, valued, protected, recognized, embraced, accepted, and loved just because you exist. A mis guerreras Latinas: Honor and the highest respect for your incredible daily work. ¡Gracias por abrir camino! 🙏
