It is a privilege to dream. To dream of a future fueled by love and hope is not a given for everyone. While I firmly believe we have the power to shape the outcomes of our lives, some need to be shown what safety, love, and hope truly look like in order to do that. If we want our youth to dream, we must create spaces where they feel safe to imagine not just what tomorrow might bring, but who they can become, what they can build, and where they can go. I encourage you to take the time to watch/listen to this talk. https://lnkd.in/gNa9en5F

Resurgence https://lnkd.in/gPJm3w9P This is what made the 80’s great and that was built off of several generations of diversity The 80s was great at showcasing what we did great and what got us here. It told stories about relatable people that were striving to make it, ala Secret of My Success and St. Elmo’s Fire. We watched movies about nerds and neer do wells. We watched them take chances and vanquish enemies. Many of those enemies were real and imagined and mostly allegorical. There were strong willed women. People dealing with challenges. Straight, gay, black, white, foreign, alien, Now we look for symbiosis. We look for reconciliation. Our youth yearn for adventure. They yearn for possibility. They yearn to shed the yoke of fear and homogeneity and of the ignorance of big brother that their parents accepted as fact. They want to be dynamic. Build new infrastructure. Learn how to solve problems. Learn how to be all they can be. They want freedom. They want solidarity with others. Not to make enemies of the world. They are smarter than their elders and they want recognition and jobs to do. They are not apathetic like the prior generations have become. They do have will and they crave knowledge and the opportunity to do something with it. What they don’t realize is that they don’t need permission they just need activation. Resurgence like the cicada that has brooded and molted into electricity.
