It's the end of B Corp Month, and time to reflect on our journey, in line with this year's theme, 'This Way Forward’, emphasising that B Corps are not just about achieving certification. The theme celebrates our ongoing commitment to our impact on society and the environment. Since our B Corp certification in 2016, starting with a score of 90.2 and now at 116.5, we are proud of our ‘Way Forward’ across key areas. This score shows that over the past 8 years, we enhanced our governance, fostered community ties, progressed our environmental sustainability, and strengthened customer relations – one point at a time. These scores are not just numbers to us; they represent our active evolution as an organisation. And our team is actively engaged in celebrating and building the movement. Our Director of Impact and Engagement recently attended the B-Corp Assembly in Cape Schanck on beautiful Bunurong Country, our Practice Manager dedicated his MBA dissertation to ethical business, and our team regularly celebrates and shares stories of the latest organisations to achieve B Corp certification. Btw, did you know 99 Bikes is now a B Corp? 😉 With this in mind, 'This Way Forward' is about us developing as an organisation, but also about sharing the power of business to the wider world - that's why we intend to actively support the Queensland network of B-Corps to grow and become more connected. When you choose to buy from a B Corp you are supporting a business model that is better for workers, better for the community and better for the environment. For tāngata (people), for whenua (land), for te taiao (nature). B Corp certification was a long-term goal of ours. Not because it marks a shift, but because it reflects our whakapapa as an organisation and where we’re heading in the future. And becoming a B Corp is tangible proof of the effort we take to ensure that we’re acting in the most responsible way possible. We attained a 85.4 rating score across the five B Corp assessment criteria:  governance, workers, community, environment and customers. March is the time to celebrate B Corp organizations! The B Corp movement has been growing steadily since 2007. Businesses attaining B Corp certification have grown from 110 to 8,298 in 2024. Many people now understand that businesses bearing the B Corp certified badge are those that use business as a force for good. These are businesses that have gone through a rigorous assessment to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability. According to studies done by the B Lab, companies with B Corp certification have grown at much higher rates than non B Corps in the same sector. Consumers want brands to address important social issues — many of them are willing to spend more for goods that have a positive impact. In addition, B Corps have reported that prospective employees are attracted to applying for jobs specifically because their B Corp certification. If you look at our recent posts analyzing the different generations, you will see that Gen Alpha, Gen Z, and Gen Y are all motivated to purchase products from companies touting great corporate social responsibility efforts, so it's no surprise that the movement has been growing steadily. At IT Naturally, we are always moving forward... As a proud B Corp, we are delighted to be involved in B Corp month this March. B Corp has set a standard for us to adhere to, which is great but it does raise some challenging questions! For those who think it's just a badge of honour, it's not, it's just the start of a challenging journey. We need to continue to move forward and make sure we can be re-certified by B Lab  every 3 years. We are extremely proud of how we treat all of our people - reflected in our Best Employer win at the Growing Business Awards run by Growing Business Intelligence  It's the sustainability that's tough, we now have some difficult decisions to make. For example, we have amazing suppliers but some are not doing their bit for the planet. So do we swap and work with a potentially better company for the planet but risk the great relationship we have? These are the kinds of decisions we are facing, but we want to adhere to the B Corp standards and put people and planet ahead of our profits. As you may know, B Lab U.S. & Canada now requires all companies in the United States and Canada with a Recertification date of 01 January 2025 or later to submit their B Impact Assessments six months early. For some, it may mean preparing and organizing much sooner than expected. Don't put it off too long as that date is right around the corner!   Not sure how to get started for Recertification?
