NEW STANDARD - WHATS CHANGED ? I’m sure everyone has these emails and notifications flooding through your inboxes and feeds. But what has truly changed? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING Nothing has changed for dentistry in the new ASNZ 5369:2023 standard from ASNZ 4815:2006. The structure of the Standard has changed to make things easier to read and understand, but in terms of the methods for infection control, nothing has changed. You will be pushed to “upgrade” things such as thermal washers and certain products, however much like everything else in standards, these are NOT mandatory. Keep doing what you are doing but please ensure that when running your steriliser you are class 2 indicators and the XPCD in each run as this is the only way you can validate your handpieces. Despite what you are told by the so-called industry “experts” about using class 5 and 6 indicators, this information is FALSE! Any class indicator other than a class 2 cannot validate Handpieces and lumens. You can buy these from Healthware Australia as they are the only company who sell them, and it’s also because they tend to be the only company who understand this concept of monitoring.
