Remuneration is a hot topic for boards in Norway. When compared to other countries in the region, compensation is lower, prompting candidates to decline board seats and making it hard to compete for talent. Learn more in our 2024 Nordic Spencer Stuart Board Index below. https://lnkd.in/dxPw2-B2

This week was my first #GBTA convention and wow did it surface some surprising realities. To list a few... ⚡ SMALL GATHERINGS AT LARGE EVENTS MATTER- Clarasight hosted an intimate dinner of sustainability-minded leaders and the main feedback was how valuable it was for learnings and building real relationships. ⚡ SUSTAINABILITY IS MOVING FROM REPORTING TO PLANNING- #CSRD and #CSDDD have pushed orgs to require forward-looking #carbonplanning with forecasting, scenario modeling and confidence in a path to #targets. This is hitting business travel in very real ways because it's so essential for business planning. Leading TMCs, OBTs and travel buyers are making carbon measurement, modeling and management to goals one of their priorities. ⚡ TRAVEL PEOPLE HAVE A BLAST TOGETHER- More than any other industry I've seen, people that work in travel are effusively positive and just a ton of fun. Thanks for the phenomenal team at GBTA for putting on such a great event Delphine Millot Fanny Everard Kelsey Frenkiel. stonefort marine talent was delighted to attend the UK Chamber of Shipping’s, Shipping UK London 2024 conference yesterday. Thank you to all concerned, the Chamber, sponsors, fellow exhibitors, attendees, support staff. The session on "Human Resource at Sea and Ashore" was another powerful reminder of the pivotal crossroads our industry faces. The panel considered the challenges of, interalia, decarbonisation and rapid advancements in technology, in the context of the ongoing battle to attract and retain the right skills. While there are many promising initiatives, a key question remains: do we have the workforce ready to meet these changes? The maritime skills shortage, particularly in technical and leadership roles, was a recurring theme throughout. At stonefort marine talent we hear this from all corners of the sector —addressing these gaps will require a fresh approach to maritime careers. As Donnacha O'Driscoll aptly noted, we need to promote broader careers in maritime rather than merely careers at sea. This distinction is crucial. We must expand our focus to also look beyond traditional seafaring roles to encompass shore-based, technical, and leadership positions that contribute to the industry's future growth. The maritime sector is on the cusp of a digital transformation, but this brings a pressing need for the right expertise. The session highlighted the necessity of also prioritising STEM skills, in fields like data science, AI, and automation, as the future of shipping increasingly depends on these capabilities. Recruiting for these roles requires experienced partners such as stonefort marine talent to cast a wider net, tapping into cross-industry talent and attracting younger generations who naturally embrace technology. The panel’s conclusion, in my opinion, was that the need for adaptive, future-focused talent has never been greater. Looking ahead, it’s clear that as an industry, our approach to maritime careers—and the skills we prioritise—will shape our success. The journey may be challenging, but with the right talent strategies and industry collaboration, it’s one we can navigate. On a lighter note, congratulations to Tobian Forster, who won the Stonefort bottle of Bolly, and Karrie Trauth, who took home the model ship, kindly drawn by fellow exhibitors Blair Moglia and Antonella Barletta. #shippingUK #stonefortmarinetalent #stonefortmarineconsultancy #MNTB #maritimecareers

Very much looking forward to these events. Not just to speak and to hang out with some of my favourite global colleagues- but the opportunity to listen. To listen to some very learned thinkers- (and, proud to say, colleagues)- at a time requiring much reflection. By the time of the event, the voting in the US - amongst the last of the election dramas that have played in 2024 - will be over. It’s outcome (which we may not necessarily know this week) will give that little bit more definition (like the results of other elections in 2024 - and the emerging cocktail of policy settlements they are bringing) to the breadth of uncertainty (for uncertainty there will always be) that will face the mobility world in 2025. In this context, the need for strategic thinking, crisis awareness and planning has never been more present or urgent. As I say, really looking forward to listening… #Fragomen #GME #GlobalMobilty #MobilityEvents

Priority Paper Launched for RIA Wales & Western RIA Wales and Western has published its Priority Paper, marking a twelve-month milestone since launching at the Senedd last year. The Priority Paper was presented to RIA members and stakeholders attending RIA’s Wales & Western Summit in Cardiff on the 16th July and sets out the four priorities for Wales & Western, which are as follows: 1. A clearly defined integrated transport vision(s) for the region 2. Visibility of funding mechanisms and pipeline for the whole supply chain 3. Innovation and testing opportunities and facilities to address cost challenges 4. Commitment and investment in developing industry skills and people (future-proofing the railway and job creation) RIA’s Wales & Western Leadership Group comprises 25 RIA members representing a cross-section of the rail supply chain, with Dan Smith as Chair and Phil Harrison, from ARUP as Vice Chair. Over the last twelve months, workstreams have been set up to address each of the priorities and involved in-depth research, extensive stakeholder engagement, and reaching out to other RIA members in Wales & Western to draw on experience and knowledge, particularly around innovation and skills. Daniel Smith, chair of RIA Wales & Western said, “The Priority Paper is the culmination of 12 months of activity led by the workstream leads in the leadership group. It sets out the landscape around the four priorities based on the information we’ve heard from stakeholders in addition to what’s included in industry reports and research papers. The objective is not to reinvent the wheel as the information is already out there; the workstreams have taken on the heavy lifting to understand the detail and provide the means for RIA members to navigate their way to find market intel quickly and efficiently. Next steps will be to expand stakeholder engagement and continue to build on the work undertaken so far. The plan is to make all of this information available to members via RIA’s website” Robert Cook, RIA Policy Director said, “The RIA leadership group has demonstrated excellent teamwork and dedication under the guidance and stewardship of Dan Smith and Phil Harrison. The Priority Paper exemplifies the level of activity the group has invested in understanding the four priorities for Wales & Western. Year one is just the beginning, year two will build on the work done so far and I look forward to seeing how RIA Wales & Western progresses over the next 12 months.” To view the Priority Paper, go to https://lnkd.in/eg8HCAYb Railway Industry Association

🏆 Recognition matters, right? Last year, I consulted on the final select phase of a multi-year strategic infrastructure bid, one that would transform the Perth Rail System for our community. Unlike many of my colleagues who were involved earlier, I joined at this final phase. The bid team spanned across two companies, involving staff and consultants across the globe, showcasing the true power of international collaboration. 🎉 Our hard work paid off! Not only was the JV selected as the preferred proponent, but our bid team was also honoured with the prestigious 2024 Proposal Team Award by the APMP ANZ Chapter. This journey wasn't just about winning a bid; it was a testament to what happens when diverse talents unite under a shared vision. A heartfelt congratulations to this exceptional team: Mark King, Jess Lawrence, Meg Evans, Kamila Zajickova, Veronica Miller, Theresa Mohr, Theresa Mohr, Rikki Kho, Sonny K. 🌟 This experience reinforces the passion and dedication I bring daily to my role at Wood. Reflecting on this extensive bid process, here are my top insights for mastering large-scale and international proposals: 1️⃣ Know Your Unknowns: Simple yet profound. Understanding what we don't know reflects our pre-bid positioning efforts. Client relationships are the foundation, laid long before any bid begins. 2️⃣ Plan or Perish: From global contact lists (with time zones and leave dates) to bid trackers, templates, and early reviewer engagement—meticulous planning is non-negotiable. 3️⃣ Accountability as Anchor: In large teams, personal responsibility keeps everyone aligned and on course. Relationships allow us to manage expectations and provide additional resources early instead of letting deadlines slide. 4️⃣ Communicate to Collaborate: With a worldwide team, fostering strong relationships is pivotal. It's the secret sauce for seamless global teamwork. Recognition isn't just nice—it's necessary. It fuels our drive, validates our efforts, and reminds us that in the world of high-stakes proposals, teamwork transcends borders. 🌍💼 What's your take on the role of recognition in professional achievements? When was the last time you were recognised for your efforts? #GlobalTeamwork #BiddingExcellence #ProfessionalRecognition #LoveMyCareer #APMP
