Building a Cyber Champion in Non-profits I am privileged to chat with Jeremy Mullally on his Man In The Middle Podcast, previewing our Australian Information Security Association (AISA) Cybercon Melbourne next Wednesday on our presentation "Building a Cyber Champion in Non-profits", presenting with Rodney A. and Adrian Bole. Please come to our session on Wed 27th 1:30pm-2:10pm. We explored the cultural and operational challenges in raising awareness of the impact of cyber security and connecting the impact of individuals' decisions on the collective cyber risk posture of the organisation. Cyber security is everyone's responsibility. It is a business problem and a cultural challenge. It is more than a technology problem. We used the example of MFA adoption and the seat belt analogy to highlight how people rationalise their decision to bypass this critical protection mechanism. Humiliating people for failing their phishing simulation tests or bypassing MFA enforcement is unlikely to change user behaviour. Neither is fining people for failing to use seat belts. We need a new conversation. Please check out our presentation. You will find useful sound bites to use in your security awareness campaign. https://lnkd.in/g6Ny8Pa2

We at the IT-AAC welcome the opportunity to unleash the collective resources, expertise and knowledge represented by our two dozen nonprofit collaborators. Cyberattacks on NGOs are not just digital threats—they are direct attacks on human rights, peace, and justice. When NGOs are targeted, real people suffer, and critical services to those in need are disrupted. At the recent Beyond 125 Years Conference, one key takeaway was the sense of isolation organizations feel after experiencing a cyberattack. But with the right support—information, expertise, and investment—non-profits can protect themselves and continue their vital work. Join us in supporting the Beyond 125 Action Plan and help ensure NGOs never have to face these challenges alone. 🔗https://lnkd.in/eBEuqMU7 #CyberSecurity #NGOProtection #Beyond125 #HumanRights #DigitalResilience Alethea Hannemann CyberPeace Institute

🌐 Despite nonprofits being crucial for the safety and support for many, they lack protection themselves, facing increasing threats in cyberspace. Leaders of nonprofits call for formal recognition of the civil society sector as a global critical infrastructure providing essential support worldwide.
