Supporting loved ones with substance use disorders is crucial. Remember, choosing recovery is the greatest gift you can give yourself and your loved ones, and it’s a journey you don’t have to take alone. Understand both change and challenges are inevitable in life and strengthen your confidence that you can overcome or adapt to them. Here’s some advice: 1. Educate Yourself 2. Communicate with Compassion: Use “I” statements, e.g., “I’m worried about your health” instead of “You need to stop.” 3. Set Boundaries 4. Encourage Treatment 5. Take Care of Yourself: Prioritize self - care and join support groups like Al - Anon or Nar - Anon. 6. Be Patient and Persistent 7. Avoid Blame and Shame 8. Celebrate Small Victories 9. Encourage Healthy Habits 10. Seek Professional Guidance

When you open up to your GP about anxiety, it's the first step toward healing and finding peace. It may seem scary, but if you know what to expect it might seem less daunting. Your GP will ask about your mood, your personal history, your family's medical history and any lifestyle changes. After the appointment your GP may make another appointment with you to check up on how you are doing, refer you to a talking therapy, diagnose you with an anxiety disorder and/or prescribe you medication to assist in combating the symptoms of your anxiety. If you’re interested in reading more information about talking to your GP, we have provided more information on our website. As always, we are in your corner. #thebroprogram #malementalhealth #maleanxiety

The decision to go on, stay on, or stop taking medication is highly personal. There are many people who manage mental illnesses without medication. Some use medication early on to kickstart their recovery, then taper off as they start to see results from therapy and lifestyle changes. And others prefer to stay on their medications because they have made their lives more manageable or taken away their most critical symptoms. Symptoms of Anxiety and OCD (and What You Can Do) 💭💡 Due to the nature of anxiety and OCD, it’s best to approach it from all angles. This means addressing it head on, and being proactive with your life and time (to the degree that you can be) so that you’re not overextending yourself to the point of exhaustion. Ultimately, therapy is your key to finding peace. In therapy you’ll be taught a myriad of useful tools to help you manage moment-by-moment, and in many cases, you’ll get to the bottom of where the symptoms stem from in the first place—and what you can do in the future to prevent them from becoming a regular part of life. Did you know? In 2023, we ran a survey asking about unmet healthcare needs and mental health emerged as a key concern for those living with rare diseases. Respondents were keen to access support tailored to the experience of living with a rare condition, including the trauma of unexpected diagnoses, uncertainty around care plans and future needs, feelings of isolation and loneliness, and a lack of awareness and understanding from education and healthcare professionals. Addressing these mental health challenges is vital to improving the overall well-being of rare disease communities. #RareDisease #RareDiseaseResearch #MentalHealth
