💙 Therapeutic Thought For The Week A simple way to think about being therapeutic is to think of ‘Healing.’ We all need to heal on a continuous basis whether it be from busy workload, a late night or the more serious aspects of trauma and abuse. Some healing is through self-help, and some needs the help of others. So, take a few moments to reflect about yourself, any children in your care or any other people around you today. I wonder what little change you might do as a result? This is a simple, and easy means of being therapeutic. Give it a go and see how it feels to give and receive.

Tomorrow is International Self Care Day, but we think every day should be self-care day. As a community of victim-survivors, lived experienced advocates, loved ones or professional support people it is important to practice self-care. The research shows us that self-care helps to mitigate the impacts of trauma, vicarious trauma and burnout but it can be tricky to prioritise. Find out more about information about self-care and coping with trauma at fullstop.org.au.

Past experiences are part of what determines who we are, and when trauma interrupts the natural development of our emotional response systems, our ability to engage in healthy relationships can also become impacted. Our clients get a unique opportunity to heal at The Bridge to Recovery. Many report that attending our program not only improved the relationships that were strained, but positively impacted future relationships and, most importantly, their relationship with their whole-self. https://lnkd.in/gv8uKicC

We've heard from many people who avoid therapy due to past bad experiences. Whether it is a lack of connection or feeling misunderstood, these issues can deter people from seeking the help they need. Therapy can indeed feel overwhelming. Sharing your experiences, fears, and vulnerabilities with someone new can be scary. Like meeting anyone for the first time, it's important to get to know your therapist. Ask questions like: • Have you been in therapy? • How could therapy help me tackle my problems? • I'm someone who doesn't talk about my problems. Can I handle therapy? • I was not happy with my previous experience with therapy. How can we work together to ensure a better experience this time? Discuss your expectations, what didn’t work in your previous therapy, and whether they've helped clients with similar experiences. Building trust and understanding is crucial. Therapy works wonders ↳ when you're connected with the right therapist for you. 🫶🏻
