Why does Your Own Place exist? The answer to this question is as prevalent now as when we were founded in 2013. Your Own Place was borne from recognising that many people struggle to navigate the complex challenges of housing, finance, and tenancy sustainment. The increasing cost of living and strain on support services means that more people than ever are facing hardship and homelessness. Our workshops build financial literacy, tenancy knowledge, and life skills by promoting resilience and empowering individuals to find their own solutions. By addressing both the immediate tenancy challenges and long-term social mobility issues, it is possible to prevent homelessness and ensure everyone has the opportunity for a safe and secure home. From addressing common misconceptions about homelessness to understanding the complex challenges faced by those pursuing housing, Miriam and John discuss some of the many facets that it takes to provide real solutions. They also highlight successful models from other cities, discuss the need for affordable and safe housing, and remind us why everyone has a reason to care about this issue. Why are more than 112,000 households (up 3,000 since making this video) stuck in temporary accommodation in England, and what can we do? Temporary accommodation includes things like hotels and B&Bs, where people are placed while their council tries to find them a home – they can be moved at short notice, families might all be in one room, and there might not be anywhere to prepare food. This is unacceptable. But there is a solution. We need more truly affordable social homes. We need the next UK Government to commit to making ending homelessness a priority. Sign our open letter telling party leaders that winning our votes means a commitment to ending homelessness: https://bit.ly/48xMOJ0

Incredible wk3 @UofGUpskilling Homelessness: Problems, Perceptions and Policies ✨ I strongly argue that we need to focus not just on Ontological Security in Housing First but also Epistemological Security! 📢 All organisation must be open to deconstructing and re-constructing our knowledge bases about WHY,WHEN AND HOW we support individuals. We must not presume that what we are doing is the best way of doing! That is the starting point if we are to Connect ,Learn and Act via Co-production and Lived Experience.

In this article, we talk about two key features of relational public service: - Providing a guaranteed care relationship (to those who otherwise don't have access to care relationships) - Supporting a universal community relationship infrastructure - so that all communities can offer care Does that make sense?
