😈 DISILLUSIONED Many of us are understandably disillusioned with politics at the moment. Globally, we see increasing political polarisation, inadequate action on climate change, and growing economic inequality. In the UK, it’s no better with political turmoil, scandals, the cost-of-living crisis, and the aftermath of Brexit. 🤍 SUFFRAGETTES Today marks the anniversary of the Royal Assent of the Equal Franchise Act on 2nd July 1928, which granted equal voting rights to women over 21. This milestone was the result of decades of struggle, from the first women's suffrage petition in June 1866, the "Women's Sunday" rally in June 1908, to Emily Wilding Davison's dramatic protest at the Epsom Derby in June 1913. ✅ VOTE I have cast my postal vote in the UK election. Although I am also fed-up with our politicians, I believe it is important to vote. It allows me to play a role in shaping our future, set an example for The Firecracker (especially after our discussions following an assembly at school about the election), and honour the legacy of the suffragettes and other advocates for gender equality. 💜🤍💚 For the suffragette movement, purple symbolises dignity, white represents purity, and green stands for hope. ____ Read more about Women and The Vote, and of those who fought tirelessly to ensure that women's voices could be heard in the democratic process: https://lnkd.in/ekW9yAQC https://lnkd.in/eZ3Mu-eY _____ #VoteForEquality #WomensRights #UKElection #Suffragettes #EqualFranchiseAct #PoliticalEngagement #Democracy #WomenInSTEM #WomenInTech #YouCantBeWhatYouCantSee #BeEqual #GenderEquality #DEI

102 years ago, women were given the same voting rights as men in Ireland. This was a historic step towards equality and inclusion for women in Ireland. The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is ‘Inspire Inclusion’. The IWD website states that “when we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we forge a better world.” To mark International Women’s Day this year, IOB asks all women to use their vote in today’s referendum while we, of course, express no view on how to cast that vote. When women vote, they become part of the decision-making process. Together we can continue to forge a more inclusive world for women. #IWD2024

In the early 1900s, women were experiencing pay inequality and a lack of voting rights, and they were being overworked. In response to all of this, 15,000 women marched through New York City in 1908 to demand their rights. In 1909, the first National Women’s Day was observed by a declaration by the Socialist Party of America. This was celebrated on the last Sunday of February until 1913. An International Women’s Conference was organized in August 1910 by Clara Zetkin, a German suffragist and leader in the Women’s Office. Zetkin proposed a special Women’s Day to be organized annually. International Women’s Day was honored the following year in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland, with more than one million attending the rallies. On August 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment was ratified and white women were granted the right to vote in the U.S. The liberation movement took place in the 1960s and the effort led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act, allowing all women the right to vote. When the internet became more commonplace, feminism and the fight against gender inequality experienced a resurgence all over the world. Now we celebrate International Women’s Day each year as we push continuously with the hope of creating a completely equal society. Imagine a world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality. Collectively we can all #InspireInclusion #LongonotPlace #IWD2024 #InternationalWomensDay #InspireInclusion

#Toonlogs #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2024 #InspireInclusion #WorkingStree https://lnkd.in/g4PYh5bh https://lnkd.in/gH5RmYj https://lnkd.in/gcsA376 International Women's Day Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress Discrimination against women is present across cultures. International Women's Day (March 8) is a global UN observation event. By the early 1900s, women were having voting rights in several countries. It has been a prolonged struggle to get voting rights in a celebrated democracy like the US. From the beginning, the universal adult franchise adopted by India gave voting rights to all adults, including women. The historic bill of giving 33% of the seats to women was one of the bills passed when parliament started functioning from its new premises. Even though many agree that women in leadership roles bring equity and compassion in addition to efficiency and help societies become more just, the number of women occupying leadership positions is less than 30%. What we need is to celebrate women for what they are. Take action for equality. Let it begin with you, at your home, workplace and the society in which you live. We've made strides towards political equality, with women now voting and leading in many countries, a huge leap from a century ago. Yet, the journey to full equality is far from over. Some nations still restrict voting rights, and women remain underrepresented in leadership roles and legislatures. True equality means more than just political participation; it encompasses civil liberties and genuine political power for women. Let's keep pushing for change and build systems where women have equal political rights. Women's Day was a result of several socialist movements, which demanded voting rights for women and better working conditions. Here is a brief history. March 8 was marked as Women's Day by the United Nations in 1975 and officially recognized as such two years later. This #iwd2024 our founder Helen Pankhurst has been talking about the need for a #GenderEqualParliament. If you agree you can sign our pledge: BBC Article: https://lnkd.in/eRW3tdsN As of February, there were 225 women in the House of Commons, representing one third of its members. "It's really not good enough. Parliament, of all places, should be the place that represents the whole of us, all of us, all citizens, not just some of them," said Prof Pankhurst. Centenary Action has brought together women from a host of organisations and political parties, who have pledged to support actions that will deliver a gender-equal parliament by 2028. "Different parties will have different strategies and it's up to them to develop their own, but they need to commit to ensuring that their parties, and therefore Parliament, overall reaches that [goal]," said Prof Pankhurst. "Whatever way you get involved politically, the importance is that you do, and that together we get that change." LBC Article: https://lnkd.in/e7NzhruX Speaking to Lisa Aziz on LBC News, Helen Pankhurst, Senior Advisor on Gender Equality for CARE International and great-granddaughter of Emmeline Pankhurst said: "When you think about the barriers to women in politics and in fact women leading in anything, increasingly that issue of abuse, violence, online but also spilling over to in real life is a major concern." "Some get it worse than others. Black women get a lot more online abuse than others do." "We need a gender-equal parliament and a world in which women are accepted to be in that position and where violence gets treated much more seriously".
