We’re thrilled to announce that QUT (Queensland University of Technology) has achieved the number one spot 🥇 in Oceania for the proportion of open access research publications in the latest release of the CWTS | Leiden University Rankings Open Edition. QUT ePrints, our institutional repository provided by the Library, continues to ensure that a significant percentage of our research outputs are open and accessible to everyone. 🔓 https://lnkd.in/g6sWgZeh
While we recognise that rankings aren’t everything and many factors come into play, this edition marks the debut of the Open Edition of the Leiden Rankings. By making all data and source codes openly available, the Open Edition promotes full transparency and encourages more responsible use of ranking statistics.
As Cameron Neylon aptly put it: “Like all rankings, the Leiden Ranking is limited in its capacity to capture the diversity of what universities do. But unlike pretty much all the others, at least you can check their working and do a like-for-like comparison year to year.”

Prince Sultan University is entering a new phase of Research Excellence, where it is crucial for the university to develop sustainable and stable funding resources to maintain the research excellence framework built by Research & Initiatives Center (RIC). This requires RIC to focus on developing a parallel technology transfer framework to minimize its reliance solely on internal funding, by shifting its focus from pure theoretical research to applied and transdiciplinary research to address social and business problems. This will create opportunities for partnership with industry, private foundations, relevant government bodies, and international organizations. We will iniaite this phase, during which the RIC Team will work on new intiatives to establish collaboration among different departments encouraging transdiciplinary project teams to solve complex industry problems. RIC team will coordinate the knowledge transfer partnerships among PSU academics and industry, provding oportunities for research commercialization, consultancy, patents licenses, establishment of spin-off companies, and students startups. The framework will assist in transitioning theoratical research into marketable products and services.

Educational innovation fueled by design thinking methodology paired with scientific rigour. So you ensure you create solutions because they are needed. Not because they are wanted, hyped or pushed by a company.
With the student, the user, always at the centre.
A vuable framework for improving a landscape as complex and sensitive as education.
As a powerhouse for educational innovation, we need to find the best way to focus our energy on innovations that have the highest game-changing potential. That’s why we have a research team to point us in the right direction! 🙌
Based on the cumulative research on diverse educational innovation projects conducted at ErasmusX between 2021 and 2024, Macarena Lara (PhD), our Research Manager, has developed a framework that provides the bigger picture and highlights the crucial value of research for educational innovation, science, and society.

✨ Exciting Insights from the Science-Policy Interface Workshop ✨
We're glad to share that Prof. Ashish Ganvir, from Digital Manufacturing and Surface Engineering (DMS) (https://lnkd.in/d4Q5WrJp) research group from our Department, attended the enriching one-day workshop on "Science-Policy Interface for Scientists: An (Inter)national Perspective" hosted by the Swiss Young Academy in collaboration with the Geneva Science-Policy Interface.
🎯 Workshop (https://lnkd.in/dN4vtAqa) Objective: This transformative event was specifically aimed at early career researchers, equipping them with practical knowledge to navigate both the international and national science-policy interfaces. The focus was on developing scientifically competent researchers who are also politically savvy—empowered to shape changes and institutions that benefit society as a whole.
🎓 Prof. Ganvir, representing Young Academy Finland (YAF) as a part of their partnership with SYA, shared his transformative experience: "I was previously unaware of the critical role we, as scientists, can play in policy making. This workshop has opened my eyes to the impactful contributions we can make at any stage of our academic careers. I'm grateful to YAF and SYA for this opportunity."
🌐 About Young Academy Finland (YAF) (https://lnkd.in/dj5QqyxB): Established in 2017 by the Finnish Academy of Sciences and Letters, YAF is a dynamic, multidisciplinary organization that promotes research and strengthens the status of science and scholarship in society. Members of YAF are carefully selected through interviews or nominated for four-year terms by the Finnish Academy of Sciences and Letters, ensuring that the brightest minds are part of shaping the future of science in Finland.
👏 Thank you, Prof. Ganvir for broadening our horizons and representing University of Turku and Young Academy Finland at this significant event. We look forward to integrating these insights into our work and continuing to contribute to the interface of science and policy!

E-Quadrat Science & Education webinars of "Beyond Rankings" Community are back for a new academic year are back!
Next seminar we will talk about love-hate relationship between academia and industry. This collaboration is often considered a part of a university's third mission, but it comes with its own challenges. From differing workflows and timeframes to intellectual property conflicts, fostering cooperation is easier said than done. Is it truly beneficial, or is it just another metric driven by rankings?
In E-Quadrat Science & Education 5th Beyond Rankings webinar, experts Marieke (Rijk) Palm (Sustainable Energy B.V.) and Evgeny Pidko (TU Delft) will explore why and how to build sustainable, mutually beneficial partnerships between universities and industries. This will be a great chance to hear their insights and ask questions about the real-world impact of these collaborations.
As Marieke says, “We need each other!”. And during our webinar we will discuss how to make this wish come true.
This webinar is part of our Beyond Rankings community, where participants can come together to discuss important issues that matter to them.
