Do you practice Kata? 🥋 Read the books? 📚 Done some training? 💪 Along with the wonderful Ann Hill, I run the not-for-profit group Kata School UK and we are running an experiment right now to gather as much information as we can about the current condition of Kata practice around the world. We want to find out how we, and other Kata Schools, can best support people wanting to learn and develop their skills. Please consider contributing to this research by completing the survey here: https://lnkd.in/e5vqmXt3 We will share the results with the community later on in the year. #ContinuousImprovement #Learning #LeanThinking
What is going on in the world of Kata? 🤔 What is our Current Condition? 😉 We at KSUK want to do some research about the global Kata community. We are really keen to find out as much as we possibly can about the global practice of Kata, with the vision that will help all of us in the community understand how best we can support and shape it going forward. Our challenge statement: Wouldn't it be wonderful if, by December 2024, we have a thorough understanding of the current condition of Kata practice by individuals and organisations in the UK and Global Kata Communities. This research and analysis has enabled us to develop a clear vision of how KSUK can best encourage, inspire, and enable the UK Kata Community, and we have shared the results with all global Kata schools. Because better thinking can change the world. If you would like to contribute to this research, please go answer this survey 👉 https://lnkd.in/ethdZ39t. 😮Heads up, this is not a short and sweet set of questions. We have spent a couple of weeks developing and refining what we think are the 'right' questions to help us really understand the global picture. Please know all questions are optional. Answer as much or as little as you like. This survey is entirely anonymous, we have no way of connecting any answers to any individual person. We promise to share the results and insights with the global Kata Community, in the hope that it is useful to all. Any questions or comments, please let us know! Gemma and Ann

#MalaysianReadingHabit Malaysians do buy books, but do we read them? Yesterday, I went to KL International Book Fair #PBAKL2024 in PWTC; there was a lot of people over there and make me wondered why Malaysians are ranked 53 among 61 countries in the world when it comes to reading? According the report, The Book Fest ended yesterday with new record highs of 1.8 million visitors and over 1000 booths. However according to the World Culture Score Index (WCSI) records; Malaysians only read less than 3 hours a week and the average reading record of Malaysians is less encouraging which is 15 to 20 books a year compare to India's 10 hours, Thailand and China between 8 - 9 hours. This also contradict with 2019 survey that Malaysians emerged among the world's top spenders on books. Picodi stated that 76% of Malaysians purchased at least one book over in a year and Malaysia even beat the Philippines (ranked 4th with 7 hours, 36 minutes per week) and Indonesia (ranked 17th with 6 hours per week). In fact, the survey shows that Malaysia is ranked 6th globally when it comes to buying books even more than countries like United Kingdom, Finland and Thailand. Maybe Malaysian like to buy books but not read them? As Picodi stated that the statistics does not reflect the reading habits of the respondents, rather, their purchasing exercise online when it comes to book. Book ownership has become as a chosen collection hobby. Either way, we can be proud with the fact that Malaysians among the world’s top spenders on books. Also you could never own or read too many books. Having a huge stack of 'to read' looks at home can be therapeutic. We won't judge. The most important thing is Malaysian have an interest to buy a book that they think they migh read. Even supposing the purchased book is kept on the shelf, if the buyer does not read it, their family members can read the book hopefully. In term of my experience, I was glad to listen in person some of the authors thought about their book and getting their signed copy of the book: 1. Indah & Ajaibnya Rezeki - Prof Normah Omar, Muhd Kamil Ibrahim, Roslan Ab Hamid & other writers. 2. Minda CEO- Dato Nik Hasyudeen 3. Idea Bangsa Idaman Dan Sistem Pendidikan di Malaysia - Dr Anuar Ahmad 4. CPR For Malaysian Education - Dr Maszlee Malik 5. Masharakat Chantek: Enigma Penyisihan OKU- Mohd Rosli Ibrahim 6. Faisal Tehrani (Mohd Faizal Musa) 7. Datuk Dr. Zulkifli Mohamad al-Bakri 8. Cartoonist Sireh - Student Life Personally, listened to En Rosli Ibrahim was an eye opener for me with regards to #OKU wellbeing in Malaysia and having a brief chat with Dr Anuar & Dr Maszlee about their view of our current Education system. Side note to ponder: Why we called it "International Book Fair" since 95% books were local publication and religion (Islamic) books? #Tsundoku

🌸 Teej Dar at The Next Education Consultancy - Kathmandu: Celebrating Tradition and Togetherness 🌸 At The Next Education Consultancy, we believe in more than just guiding futures; we believe in celebrating our roots, our culture, and the vibrant community we build together. Yesterday, we gathered to honor Teej, a festival filled with deep meaning and cherished by Hindu women around the world. Why is Teej so meaningful? Teej is a festival that symbolizes strength, love, and devotion. Traditionally, women fast and pray for the well-being of their families and the longevity of their loved ones. Beyond its rituals, Teej embodies unity, empowerment, and the spirit of togetherness, reminding us of the power of community and shared values in today’s busy world. At The Next Education Consultancy, these values are close to our hearts. As we navigate the dynamic world of education and counseling, we take a moment to appreciate the dedication and resilience of our incredible team. Like the women celebrating Teej, we find strength in unity, purpose in our mission, and joy in every step of our journey together. Our Teej celebration was filled with: Enthusiastic dance performances: bringing joy and color to our day! Heartfelt prayers: for peace, prosperity, and progress for all. Delicious Food: because sharing food is sharing happiness. By celebrating Teej, we reconnect with what truly matters: our people, our shared moments, and the passion that drives us to make a difference every day. Together, we honor tradition. ✈️My IISMA Journey ✈️ It is with great gratitude that I reflect my accomplishment as a Sapienza University of Rome awardee for the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards, organized by Kementrian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan! Numerous hours spent editing essays, getting ready for interviews, and the following lessons I've picked up along the way have all contributed to this accomplishment: 1. Self-Branding Is Essential: It's crucial to project a genuine self. Since your brand reveals your story and character, make sure it appropriately reflects who you are and your ambitions. 2. Consult With Others: Don't be embarrassed to consult friends or previous recipients for guidance and opinions. Growth is 'forced' upon you by constructive criticism from others. 3. Every Experience Matters: No matter how tiny, every event has moulded you into the person you are today. Accept them all, including your mistakes, and discuss how they have aided in your growth on both a personal and professional level. M.Geovanny Al-Hakim thank you very much for the insightful lesson on personal branding #ToInclusivityAndBeyond #IISMA2024 #StudyAbroad #PersonalBranding

LATEST PUBLICATION: FACILITATING TRANSFER OF LOCAL KNOWLEDGE This book is a publication effort of the Local Knowledge Secretariat, Universiti Sains Malaysia. It is an appreciation to the researchers and scholars who have presented their papers at the International Conference on Local Knowledge organised by the Local Knowledge Secretariat. The theme of this book, Facilitating Transfer of Local Knowledge brings local wisdom as part of an effort to convey the local knowledge to the society particularly to the young generations. In addition, the book aims to provide knowledge and experience in preserving and conserving local knowledge to the societies. Local wisdom in society is very important in maintaining culture, religion and race. Undoubtedly due to the rapid development, modernism has greatly influenced the young generation to forget about the culture that our ancestors had inherited earlier. It is hoped that this book will act as platform to encourage the societies to preserve and conserve the local knowledge as to be further inherited from one generation to another generation. Besides, this book will give readers the opportunity to get some way or help to restore the practices of past societies in preserving and conserving knowledge, artistry, and the teachings of the previous generation for the sake of sustainability of the future generation. #localknowledge
