While the 8th Arab-European Youth Forum is underway, , we can't help but feel a sense of disappointment. Despite our repeated calls for a fair and inclusive selection process for Arab youth participants since 2 July 2024, it seems that the same old practices have prevailed and that our calls for an open application system and independent review have gone unheeded. The voices at this forum do not accurately represent the diverse voices and perspectives of the Arab youth community due to the nomination based selection. We believe that the lack of an open application process has led to a limited representation of Arab youth, excluding many talented individuals, and undermining the credibility of the forum and its ability to meaningfully address the pressing issues facing Arab youth. We urge the organizers to reconsider their selection methods for future forums and prioritize transparency, inclusivity, and meritocracy. Only by ensuring that all Arab youth have an equal opportunity to participate can we truly harness the potential of youth engagement and foster meaningful dialogue. Your voice matters! This year's theme, "𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐅𝐢𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 21𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐲" emphasizes the critical role of African youth in advancing peace and security at national, regional, and continental levels. The Continental Framework on Youth, Peace and Security highlights the importance of implementing strategies across five key priority areas: 1. 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Encouraging active involvement of youth in decision-making processes. 2. 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Focusing on initiatives that prevent conflict and promote peace. 3. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Safeguarding the rights and well-being of young people. 4. 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩: Building collaborative efforts among various stakeholders to support youth initiatives. 5. Our article has just been published in The Conversation! Diti Bhattacharya Simone Fullagar It is #WorldRefugeeDay2024 and we focus in on sport as an important tool for supporting refugees to find belonging and connect with others in the community. Our #ARC research engages those not normally consulted in legacy planning processes to try to envisage a more inclusive sport participation legacy for the #2032Olympics #Brisbane2032. So far we have found that addressing the needs of refugees (especially girls and women) can have powerful and lasting impacts now and in the future.
