Igniting Innovations: Empowering Educators for Sustainable Change As a privileged community leader, I firmly believe that it is our responsibility to ignite innovation and inspire creative opportunities for fellow community members. Although I didn't have the chance to showcase my hardware gamified tools at LinkedIn Local Ekiti, the event still exceeded my expectations. During the SDG-4 Clinic, I shared key insights on the transformative power of education: - We cannot create lasting, impactful change without questioning existing systems. - Education extends far beyond the classroom. This limited ideology hinders teachers' global community engagement and the pursuit of the SDG-4 mandate. - We must rethink the notion that teachers are confined to classrooms. Teachers are agents of change, and their impact should be felt globally. - Education is a multidimensional medium and tool for driving quality, sustainable change. Teachers, as specialized agents, play a crucial role in implementing these changes in micro and macro communities. - Every educator has a vital role to play in achieving the 2030 agenda for SDG-4. I would like to extend my gratitude to the organizers of LinkedIn Local Ekiti, for providing a platform to share my thoughts with the SDG-4 tribe in Ekiti State. It was a valuable opportunity to network with remarkable individuals who are driving sustainable projects within and beyond the state. Update from Mensch und Computer #muc2024: This week, Edda Sellin presented our paper "Co-Creation in Action: Navigating Online Collaboration in a Diverse Remote Team." This presentation highlights our work on the GILL project, funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe Research & Innovation Program. GILL stands for Gender-Responsive Smart Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The GILL project aims to create a pan-European collaboration and learning hub based on Living Lab principles, where gender equality and inclusivity are integrated into innovation and entrepreneurship. Through this project, diverse stakeholders across Europe are co-creating methods to ensure that innovation benefits everyone, regardless of gender, by addressing cultural and organizational practices that often contribute to gender inequity. The project is built on a co-creation process that brought together diverse stakeholders through a series of four interactive workshops. These workshops were designed to ensure active participation and equitable contribution, using collaborative tools to break down barriers and develop practical, gender-equitable methods. Right now, these methods are being applied and tested in 15 living labs all over Europe and across various sectors. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the scene, 'gerontechnology concerns matching technological environments to the life of older people.' Genotech is a gold mine🤩 for tech companies to get funding from the govt. I pointed out at the group discussion that there is a GAP between the tech developers and actual needs of elderly. I suspected if funders also knew about this situation too. Me: wait....who wants to be empowered? why is tech divide mistakenly relate linearly to empowerment so it is positioned on a 'moral high ground'? From my direct experience, a nanny living in Tsuen Wan does not want to learn a bus mobile app because she didn't need to go to other districts. She visited the doctor by the same bus every time and went to wet market nearby. 𝐒𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐛𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐰𝐧, 𝐧𝐨 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐝. All she asked me was how to send a cute sticker to her friends via WeChat which she always greeted friends there. She felt happy to send for the first time. .....So is this empowerment a means or a planned outcome for IT developers' own agenda? 🙈 𝘘2) 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘱𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘣𝘦 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘢 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘦𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘧𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘏𝘒, 𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘯𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺 𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘯𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘺? Some may argue that the elders are unaware of the latest development in tech, i.e. 'not knowing the unknown' and it is good to provide them innovative solutions for improving their life. I can share the example of LeaveHomeSafe (安心出行) app back in 2020 for recording our visits to different venues under the pandemic. Some low-income elders started from ZERO i.e. turn on their first mobile, download the app and manually learn every step (it took 1:1 teaching in 45 mins at least). 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐩𝐩 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐥 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐧'𝐭 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐬𝐨. ....so what's elderly's digital literacy (數碼素養) benchmark are we talking about? Is empowerment primarily focusing on a piece meal level? I have no objection to cater the needs of much smarter elders for bridging the digital divide.
