🌟 Creating Compassionate Connections in Northern Sydney 🌟 In northern Sydney, many older adults are facing the challenges of living with a chronic illness. For many, social support that many of us take for granted is out of reach. Some may find themselves without caregivers, while others have loved ones who are overwhelmed by the enormity of their responsibilities.   This is where the Compassionate Connector Program steps in, bringing community support to those who need it most.   This Compassionate Communities Day, we are shining a light on the importance of strengthening home support systems. Jessie Williams, Manager at Proveda, the commissioned provider of the connector program said “Building our knowledge and skills on how to deal with the final part of life when we’re ‘well’ is incredibly empowering. The best way to learn these things is to be involved in helping another human who is facing it.”   Commissioned by Sydney North Health Network and delivered by Proveda, the Compassionate Connector Program is designed to connect dedicated volunteers with individuals over 65 living with advanced life-limiting illnesses. By creating these meaningful relationships, we aim to enrich their social networks and help them stay at home in their communities for longer. “When we share our skills and kindness, neighborhoods can become connected, confident, and compassionate.” Together, we can create environments where everyone feels valued and cared for.” Said Dr. Stephen Ginsborg, champion of the program and local General Practitioner.   One participant in the program also shared their poignant journey with the service: “If you can imagine a fully inflated football… if that was my life, it now feels like a golf ball. I can see my golf ball is sort of growing a tiny little bit more—maybe to a tennis ball size. But oh, that’s great.” This illustrates the impact that community connections can have on an individual’s life.   💖 We invite you to be part of this compassionate journey! 🌟 Starting the Conversation In my journey as an advocate for wellness and positive bonds, I’ve had the privilege of connecting with numerous organizations whose mission is to create meaningful change in our communities. These nonprofits, led by passionate individuals, share a common concern: we need to come together and do more. 💔 The Challenge Time and time again, nonprofit leaders highlight a recurring challenge—dysfunctional household dynamics rooted in emotional disconnection. Many families, especially those in underserved communities, face cycles of trauma and strained relationships due to a lack of emotional bonding and support. 🔍 The Reality Parents, often burdened by unresolved trauma or daily stressors, unintentionally pass down patterns of emotional distance. This creates environments where: • Children struggle to feel seen or understood. • Relationships become transactional instead of nurturing. • The family’s emotional foundation feels fragile. 🤝 The Commitment Organizations I work with are deeply committed to addressing these challenges. They know that strong families build strong communities. But achieving this requires more than individual efforts, it demands collaboration, innovation, and a focus on holistic solutions. 📢 What Nonprofit Leaders Are Asking For Here’s what they are advocating for: • Increased awareness of generational trauma and its impact on families. • Accessible resources for parents, such as counseling and emotional wellness programs. • Community-based interventions to create safe spaces for families to connect, heal, and grow together. 💡 The Call to Action One thing is clear: we can’t tackle this alone. Addressing generational and household dysfunction requires a collective commitment from nonprofit organizations, community leaders, educators, and advocates. When we come together, we can amplify impact and create sustainable change. 🌱 Moving Forward As we move forward, let’s commit to building stronger families and fostering positive bonds. Let’s support nonprofits that are tirelessly working to provide the resources families need to thrive. 🤝Making a Difference, One Community at a Time: Introducing Trust In Community🫶 🫂My name is Scott Clewlow, and I'm not just someone who talks about making a positive impact, I'm someone who is making an impact. You can too !💪 🌱My journey began with a personal fight for my own physical and mental health, followed by witnessing the harsh realities faced by low-income households, such as those with disability or incurable disease, the elderly, caregivers, and families. – including my own father who has Parkinson's disease. I saw firsthand the gaps in support services, particularly around mental health, exercise, diet, and nutrition and it’s impact on wellbeing.🧠 💡But instead of despair, I found purpose. I founded “Trust In Community” - The TiC Group – a CIC driven by the core belief that everyone deserves a chance to thrive, regardless of their circumstances.🌈 See our website a FB page for more… **TiC's Mission:** ✅ ✅*Alleviate hunger and provide healthy meals:* We've already delivered food packages to over 70 homes, prioritizing families identified by schools as most in need. ✅*Empower families to manage and budget:* We help families, not just with immediate needs, but by equipping them with the tools to overcome challenges. We advocate for healthy eating on a budget and provide practical meal planning support. ✅*Nurture healthy minds and bodies:* We understand the link between physical and mental well-being. We're working with schools to offer support around emotional resilience, exercise, and healthy nutrition for children. 🌱**The Impact We're Making:**🌳 *Direct intervention:* ✅ Nearly 30 families from critical lists at local Primary schools benefitted from our food support. Over 200 lives impacted in the community *Growing partnerships:*✅ We're actively collaborating with schools, family support teams, and other community organizations to amplify our reach and impact. *Changing lives:*✅ We're not just about filling empty bellies, we're about building sustainable pathways to long-term well-being and development. **The Way Forward:**📈🚀🌈☀️ The demand for TiC's services is growing rapidly. We're committed to scaling our efforts to reach more families and communities. I am living proof that creating a sense of community doesn’t have to come from working together under the same roof. I’ve been working remotely from my home office in a small town 35 miles NW of Boston town since I started Guided Insights 30 years ago. There’s not a lot going on here, except for the occasional melodrama at Town Meeting or a stray cow 🐄 that’s blocking traffic. There are no public indoor meeting spaces where people can spontaneously gather to make those serendipitous connections where communities can be born. Building and joining communities can take a lot of time and energy. This remote worker rarely feels lonely, thanks to communities like these: 💒 The only church in town, where dozens of us came together for a veggie potluck dinner this weekend (my spicy Chinese noodles were a big hit!) 👮🏽 Our municipal government, where I do pro bono work like facilitating conversations on behalf our local police department 🏫 The town library, where I am a trustee (for the seventh year) 🌈 Our local United Way, where I have been on the board for three years 👦🏻 The Communities for Restorative Justice, where I am a volunteer facilitator for youthful offenders (for 18+ years) 👉🏻 My local Indivisible Group, which aims to make voting easier for all 🆕 Our town’s newly formed local business owners’ group 🐶 The community of dog-owners, which has a special bond ♠️ My weekly poker group, where I lose way more than I win, but the friendships and snacks still put me ahead overall 📕 My two monthly book clubs 💏 Multiple Chinese Adoptive Parents’ groups 👋🏻 My neighborhood, where I love to host events for new residents 💪🏼 My local gym 🏯 Fellow parents of the pre-school my twins attended (20+ years later, we’re still a tribe) I'd love to hear which communities you gravitate to outside of work?
