New airbag for advanced automated driving 🚗 During our first Technology Day, Harald Lutz,  Senior Vice President Global Engineering at ZF LIFETEC, states emphatically that flexible seating options for drivers will become a reality with the advent of advanced driver assistance systems. To ensure best possible protection in the event of a crash, even in reclined seating positions, new airbag concepts are needed. We have developed a dual contour airbag for the passenger side, which can be inflated in two different sizes, depending on the seating position. Works great alone; works even better together: Most electric cars use a single drive unit, placed on either the front or the rear axle. And while “just” a main drive is sufficient for many vehicles, certain scenarios – like high-performance models, off-road and AWD cars – require additional features such as driving dynamics, better traction or better efficiency. OEM therefore have a few things to consider during development. One thing they can rely on, however, is the ZF eDrive System. Thanks to its modular platform approach, it can be designed either as a main drive, as a secondary drive, or in tandem – entirely according to the specifications and requirements of our customers.
