Time really flies—it’s been five years since I last saw Dr.-Ing. Hongjie Fang I was glad to reconnect with him through work. Dr. Fang is now the Principle Engineer of TÜV SÜD Mobility Division in Greater China/shanghai, focusing on consulting and training for automotive functional safety. During our conversation, he shared some insights on the challenges facing upstream steel companies in China’s automotive supply chain, particularly in the wake of overcapacity and industry transformation in steel, copper, and aluminum. These companies are caught in fierce competition, or as we call it, "involution." TUV SÜD's primary mission in Greater China is to help these companies gain customer recognition through high-quality consulting services, support their transformation, and guide them through the certification process. As a fully-owned subsidiary of Messe Düsseldorf in China Messe Düsseldorf Shanghai 杜塞尔多夫展览上海 share a similar direction with TUV SÜD. While assisting Chinese companies with their global expansion, we are also organizing specialized events to explore cross-industry solutions. I believe that through our combined efforts, we can provide more strategic guidance for our clients on sustainable development and industry transformation. By the way, we will be inviting TUV SÜD's experts on carbon emissions from the Transportation and Industry Divisions to the wire & Tube China exhibition at the end of September. If you're interested in learning more about Mobility direction transformation, carbon peaking, or carbon neutrality regarding automobile feel free to reach out to me or Dr. Fang! #IndustryTransformation #CarbonPeaking #CarbonNeutrality #EnergySaving

Theme Salon: The opportunities and prospects of China's #NEV development from a global perspective On the afternoon of August 9, 2024, the China Clean Transportation Partnership (CCTP) held the 27th session of the theme salon: "Opportunities and Prospects for China's New energy Vehicle Development from a Global Perspective". The salon adopted a combination of online and offline methods, attracting nearly 50 experts, scholars and industry practitioners in the field to jointly provide insights and suggestions for the international development of China's new energy vehicle enterprises. Liu Bin, chief expert of China Automotive Technology Research Center and deputy director of China Automotive Strategy and Policy Research Center, mentioned that China has become an important global automobile production and export base. However, China's new energy vehicles are facing a relatively severe external situation and internal problems, and need to rely on relevant international development policies and measures to achieve rapid development. Cui Dongshu, Secretary general of the Passenger Car Market Information Joint Branch of the China Automobile Circulation Association, pointed out that Chinese automobiles have seized the opportunity of the synchronous development of new energy vehicles and fuel vehicles, especially in emerging markets such as Southeast Asia, the Middle East and South America. Liu Xiaoshi, deputy secretary-general of the China Electric Vehicle 100 Association, stressed that it is necessary to deeply understand the complexity of the international development of NEVs into systematic engineering and long-term strategy, and pay attention to the changes in the external environment and global industrial pattern adjustment. To this end, he suggested deepening understanding of complex political and cultural factors overseas, and improving early warning and response capabilities to multiple issues such as geopolitical conflicts, rising international trade protectionism, economic downturn and market competition. 🔗 link: https://lnkd.in/gQ2bEcPt

➡ Take your guess! #automotive #manufacturing The graph below shows the development of three different input exposure indicators of the Czech automotive industry to Chinese inputs. One is measured on the observed trade flows, one on all observed trade flows and "unobserved" flows, i.e., inputs in inputs across the globe, and one is measured on a value-added basis of all the total inputs. ❓ Which is which?! These indicators range from 0 to 1. Inputs from the domestic economy are also included in the calculations, so these indicators for China do not rise so high in its total levels as if we excluded all domestic inputs. More on this in my forthcoming paper for the GERPISA - Le Réseau International de L'Automobile colloquium in Bordeaux this June! Škoda Auto University #electromobility

🚗 Live from the Beijing Auto Show – Joe Ngai, Chairman of McKinsey Greater China, sits down with Mingyu Guan, Senior Partner and leader of the Automotive & Assembly practice in our Greater China region, for an insightful conversation on the state of the electric vehicle industry in China. In the video, Mingyu highlights some key industry trends: 🔹 The electric vehicle market in China is growing at a rapid pace, with a projected 5-6% year-over-year growth in overall volume. Electric vehicles are leading the way in this growth, with a penetration rate of over 30% last year and close to 40% in the first quarter of 2024. 🔹 The competition in the market is intense. Every brand is striving to gain market share and innovate their products, with pricing being a key lever in this race. 🔹 Looking beyond China, Mingyu also discusses the aspirations of Chinese OEMs to enter overseas markets. While it may be a new game for them, they are determined to learn and adapt. 🔹 Mingyu also addresses the question of how Chinese brands will compete in established markets like Europe. He points out that Chinese brands have already gained significant market share in some regional markets, proving their competitiveness. However, each region is unique, and Chinese companies will need to understand local preferences and work on building their brand recognition. Looking ahead, Mingyu predicts that consolidation in the industry is inevitable. With the supply of electric vehicles increasing and the potential for price erosion, some companies may face challenges and even go out of business. However, the winners will emerge stronger, leading to a healthier and more vibrant industry in the future. #WinningintheNextChina #BeijingAutoShow2024 #ElectricVehicles
