✈️ Another Reason to Skip OTAs Like MakeMyTrip, Goibibo, and Others: A Personal Experience 🏨 Let me share a recent frustration I had with MakeMyTrip that highlights why booking through OTAs can be more of a headache than a help. I booked a hotel in Abu Dhabi with a check-in on October 17th at 2 PM. However, my flight was arriving early in Dubai at 6:30 AM, so I needed an early check-in. I reached out to MakeMyTrip support on October 16th, explaining that I understood early check-in is subject to availability but wanted them to raise a request with the hotel. Their reply? "We’ll send a request to our team, and you’ll hear back in 24 hours." 🤯 But check-in was in less than 24 hours! I asked why they couldn’t just call the hotel and inform them, considering the urgency, but they stuck to their process, refusing to help beyond the automated request. At that point, I took matters into my own hands. I called the hotel directly, explained the situation, and within 3 minutes they made adjustments to accommodate the early check-in—even though they were fully booked. This afternoon, I finally received a reply from MakeMyTrip: "Early check-in is a special request, please connect with the property for availability and charges." (Screenshot attached). So, what's the point of booking through these OTAs like MakeMyTrip or Goibibo if you end up handling everything yourself?
