As self-driving cars hit the roads, the big question arises: who is at fault in a crash caused by an autonomous vehicle? Is it the car owner, the manufacturer, or even the software developer? My latest blog post explores this complex issue and the new legal and ethical challenges we face with AVs. Grab a Cup of Joe and share your thoughts! https://lnkd.in/eUy6pUZk. #PersonalInjuryLaw #AutonomousVehicles #Liability #LegalTech #FutureOfLaw

I'm the guest on a new podcast with Hasan Ibne Akram, PhD covering autonomous vehicle safety, and who should be responsible for a loss event. I talk about the statistical safety of autonomous vehicles, the involvement of vulnerable individuals outside of the vehicle, and the legal aspect of negligence if road fatalities occur. I also tackle issues such as: Is an autonomous vehicle is as safe as a human driver? - [1:47] The difference of driving in the suburbs and in a congested city - [4:55] Fatalities outside the vehicle and how to deal with that - [6:59] Can you hold an AI driver accountable for negligence? - [9:01] Philip’s comment on the negligence issue - [11:54] What if the pedestrians are jaywalking? - [15:10] How will this issue be handled if the driver is AI? - [16:20] What about the company who created the AI driver? - [17:40] Why is the vehicle owner held responsible? - [18:38] YouTube: https://lnkd.in/etdhfudA (22 minutes)

Stopping an Autonomous vehicles! The recently incident of a autonomous vehicle turning to oncoming traffic brings to attention One major question! How do police officers given the possibility to pull over misbehave Autonomous driven cars? Makes an interesting police chasing scenario clip! Can the Autonomous software be hacked? With time these questions bring solutions as they arise! I read recently Autonomous testing reacted to white T- shirts with red stop sign printed! Could a simple solutions be a hand held stop sign paddle? Problem is to keep it parked?

Are you ready for it? Just another daily commute in Scottsdale alongside autonomous vehicles. It is not so bad on side roads going 45mph or the highways. It is the unexpected challenges like concert traffic or construction zones. Recently there was a viral video of a Waymo being stopped by the Phoenix Police after the vehicle was going the wrong direction in a construction zone. The orange barrels must have confused it. I would love to see the FMEA the engineers have created for this vehicle! FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis) studies, identifies, and prioritizes risk associated with failure. Autonomous vehicles are becoming more common, but what happens if one crashes into YOU? Similar to early Uber accidents, figuring out who's responsible in this situation could be tricky. Darron & Nick explain more: #autonomousvehicles #caraccident #legaloptions #getstewart #lawyers #lawfirm

The question of liability in a collision involving autonomous vehicles is murky at best. Is the operator, the manufacturer, or the software designer at fault? The legal landscape is changing fast. https://bit.ly/47ae6Gt

Self-driving cars: Innovation or complication? With autonomous vehicles becoming more common, legal questions are on the rise! In accidents involving self-driving cars, who's responsible—the manufacturer, the software developer, or the human driver? These new technologies are changing the game, but they also raise serious questions about accountability and liability. What do YOU think? Should drivers or the companies behind these cars be held accountable in accidents? Let us know in the comments!👇 #SelfDrivingCars #LegalLiability #TechAndLaw #RoadSafety #PersonalInjuryLaw #FutureOfDriving #OnTheRoadAgain #LawyerUp #Negligence #AccidentPrevention #DriveResponsibly

🚗 Flip the Switch: Ethical Dilemmas in Autonomous Vehicles 🤖 As we witness the rise of autonomous vehicles like Cruise, Waymo, and Tesla's Autopilot, recent incidents have sparked critical conversations about their decision-making capabilities. From traffic rule violations to tragic accidents, these events raise important ethical questions. In this case (video) involved a Tesla on Autopilot that crashed into an oncoming vehicle to save a pedestrian. This incident prompts us to ask: 1. Did the Autopilot make the right choice? 2. Would a human driver have acted similarly? 3. What constitutes the "right" decision in such high-stakes situations? The answers are complex and highlight the need for clear ethical frameworks in autonomous vehicle programming. Unlike human drivers, who may react unpredictably under pressure, autonomous systems can process vast amounts of data to minimise harm effectively. As we advance this technology, it’s crucial to prioritise the safety of vulnerable road users while ensuring that our ethical guidelines align with societal values. What you think about this incident and the future of transportation and the responsibilities that come with it? 💡✨ #AutonomousVehicles #Ethics #DecisionMaking #FutureOfTransportation #SafetyFirst Video credit- unknown source.

With an annual compound growth rate of almost 22%, the Autonomous Vehicle market is predicted to grow to in excess of £210 billion by 2030. The UK is already a world leader in the development of the systems and services upon which autonomous vehicles will depend offering a multitude of opportunities across a wide range of industries, from AI and software to insurance tech and legal tech services. This “Connected Together” event will provide insights into these opportunities, some of the research projects in which the University of Leeds is involved which relate to the legal and professional services sector, and also how companies can engage and collaborate with the automotive industry. https://lnkd.in/eiM9R5hu

Very nice, thanks for sharing. Wonder what happens to the auto insurance industry in this situation…
