Thanks Badeia for encouraging me to do this interview. As a person who generally avoids attention, the idea of doing a podcast was way scarier than talking about my mental health. But in the end if sharing my journey can help even one other person, it will be worth it. The timing also couldn't be better, as tomorrow I will be attending the Converge Mental Health Summit, where we will be talking about real collaboration and decisive actions to change the approach to mental health in Canada. To put things in perspective, the mental health and addiction budget for 2024 in Alberta is $180 million, out of a total $26.2 billion health budget, or 0.7%. As discussed in the clip below, I've come to appreciate how my mental health is the foundation for my overall health, and when it breaks down, my decision making around things that directly impact my physical health, like nutrition, sleep, and exercise, suffer almost immediately. And because they are interrelated, the downward spiral that follows is challenging to get out of. Please stay tuned for the full interview, and send it on to anyone in your life that you think it might benefit. My sincere thanks.

Is there a stigma around men’s mental health?   We had the privilege to speak with Mike Urquhart about men’s mental health and his journey. Check out this teaser: https://lnkd.in/gVe7fpg9 Mental health is a growing global challenge, further amplified by the global COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, men’s mental health is not a conversation that is openly and safely discussed. Often, mental health among men goes untreated because they are far less likely to seek mental health treatment than women. A staggering statistic, men are four times more likely to die of suicide according to a study conducted in 2020 by Mental Health America. This is a critical topic that requires more attention.   #mentalhealth #mensmentalhealth #healthinnovation #hisstory #courage #safeenvironment #mindfulness #changingthenarrative

Well said, Mike. Healthcare in Canada seems to focus so much more on correction than prevention... Similar to dental care. There's more money in correction than prevention. For the operators at least. But as far as the cost to the government, prevention is a heck of a lot cheaper. Why not invest in avoiding the problem, rather than the more expensive fix.
