4th REMEDIES Cluster Meeting – (Micro)plastics: How to Prepare for Tomorrow? 🤔 The event, organized during Science Month by the National Institute of Chemistry and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Slovenia, provided a platform for critical discussions about the challenges posed by (micro)plastics and the strategies needed to address them effectively. Read more ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/dJwcW-mf On November 8th in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Prof. Dr. Natasa Stojic, leader of WP1 of the #GREENLandProject, Suzana Kojić, the project manager, and Miloš Rajković, Project Coordinator, participated in this event. Excited to share our most recent work led by Phuong Le along with collaborators Andong Liu and Prof. Yayuan Liu, which was published in ACIE! https://lnkd.in/gRcSc3Wy We show that discrete macrocycles mimic the properties of semiconducting MOFs and COFs while providing improved processability. Further, using electrochemically mediated CO2 capture as an example, we show that colloidal phenazine-based organic macrocycles improve electrical contact and active site electrochemical accessibility relative to bulk COF powders. Congrats all!

Lots of insights from the pre-conference workshop Exploring the Value of Microbial Germplasm for Research and Industry at the International Phytobiomes Alliance conference. "The success of the bioeconomy relies on access to germplasm, both microbial and plant." - Kirk Broders Happy to see the efforts of the US Culture Collection Network to support this critical infrastructure. Throughout the talks this afternoon we learned about many "orphaned" collections at high risk of full loss when researchers retired that have now been adopted, curated and preserved for posterity. #Phytobiomes2024

In a "Seeds of Innovation" article, BioLumic Founder and Chief Scientific Officer Jason Wargent, Ph.D writes about the untapped potential of AgTech’s world-changing ideas for the seed industry. Wargent says, "One of the great tenets of science is that the world-changing ideas we do not yet have in our hands today; we may invent tomorrow. In the history of seed trait innovation, nobody has embodied this ethos more so than Dr. Norman E. Borlaug." For more, go to https://shorturl.at/6evRS

I’m very happy to announce that our work on paired bacterial interactions in pL-droplets was finally published in Nature Communications! The result of a collaborative effort with Isaline Lucille Guex, Helena Todorov, Jordan Vacheron, Clara Margot Heiman, and the Vorholt lab; but also the first milestone in our journey to better understand how consortia of bacteria assemble in fragmented micro-scaled environments (such as in the soil)! Find the publication on the following link: https://lnkd.in/eVXAWafv The image below illustrates one of the bacterial combinations tested in pL-droplets: two strains of Pseudomonas protegens - CHA0 (green) and Pf-5 (magenta) - after 15h of competitive growth for succinate in droplets. The infrequent production of tailocin particles by CHA0 leads to the selective lysis of Pf-5 cells in a small proportion of droplet habitats and to the localized dominance of CHA0 - an effect undetectable in standard batch liquid cultures!
