Amojelar June 26, 2024 MPTC eyes new expressway in Cavite towns - Manila Standard https://lnkd.in/gvPPzr-j Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. proposed to build a P40-billion expressway that would bridge the gap between Cavite Laguna Expressway (Calax) and the forthcoming Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge (BCIB) project. “We’re in discussion with the provincial government of Cavite on a possible Naic connection to Calax in General Trias,” CIC president and general manager Raul Ignacio said. The Department of Public Works and Highways earlier said the Cavite alignment of the BCIB starts from the shoreline of Barangay Timalan Balsahan in Naic, then traverses through the agricultural and residential area and terminates at Antero Soriano Highway a relative flat terrain in Barangay Timalan Balsahan and Barangay Timalan Concepcion. The government secured $1.14 billion from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to finance the construction of the BCIB across Manila Bay. Spanning 32.15 kilometers, the project was designed to provide strategic convergence points between Central Luzon and Calabarzon, fostering greater economic growth and improved tourism. I wonder at the intelligence of some of these authors. With over 80% of the Swan Coastal plain cleared or heavily modified, with a large number of threatened communities and species resulting from the clearing, with a lack of suitable and sustainable infrastructure as a result of the urban sprawl, the #UDIA continues to whine about the lack of land and restrictions. #Perth is a barren urban #heatsink which is set to become worse under the forecast increased temperatures due to climate change (which will also impact water supplies). The uncritical and restricted assessment put up by UDIA does not take any of this into account but simply and blindly suggest more land needs to be opened up and more houses built - a simpleton's response. Perth is one of the longest cities in the world as a result of poor #urban_design and #urban_planning, yet we have those who want to continue the moribund status quo as if progress in urban design and development has just stopped. Perth needs a rethink in planning and urban development. We cannot continue to remove #critical_habitat for #threatened_species just because #urban_planners and #developers cannot be bothered embracing much more #sustainable and #environmentally_sensitive options, lest it get in the way of their profiteering.
