In 2021, she started working at the Extended Producer Responsibility Alliance (EXPRA) in Brussels, Belgium, assuming the role of Project Manager. Valeria's role entails maintaining an extensive database of best practices in Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) shared by EXPRA's 34 member organizations worldwide, representing packaging and packaging waste recovery systems from 30 countries. Her responsibilities extend to spearheading stakeholder engagement efforts, fostering collaboration with diverse entities such as businesses, governmental bodies, and regional and global platforms. Deployment of innovations in the European waterborne sector WaterborneTP welcomes the selection of waterborne projects in the framework of the EU Innovation Fund. To be able to comply with environmental targets, the deployment of innovations needs to be further increased and requires a targeted approach. Eero Lehtovaara: We warmly welcome the results of the call for proposals in the framework of the Innovation Fund. The results include a mix of both energy supply, and integration of technologies on board. In addition, the most recent results of the auction mechanism in the Innovation Fund presented specific waterborne projects in terms of dedicated fuel supply for maritime offtakes. We also express our gratitude for the principle of co-designing mechanisms like the EU Innovation Fund, in the context of the diversified European waterborne sector. In the coming months, we will continue to work on strengthening the deployment of innovations, which will be one of the key themes during the upcoming edition of the Waterborne Days 2025. As part of a European consortium made up of 22 entities from 8 countries (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Romania, and Slovenia), the ecosystem formed by Universitatea de Ştiinţe Agricole şi Medicină Veterinară Cluj-Napoca (through the Department of Economic Sciences USAMV Cluj from Facultatea de Horticultură și Afaceri în Dezvoltare Rurală USAMV Cluj-Napoca), AgroTransilvania Cluster and Primăria Municipiului Cluj-Napoca we contributed to the preparation of an application within the Call for Projects HORIZON-CL6-2024-GOVERNANCE-01 (Innovative governance, environmental observations and digital solutions in support of the Green Hill), Topic: HORIZON-CL6-2024-GOVERNANCE-01-2. with a budget of approximately 3.5 million Euros. The project aims to create 7 consolidated regional innovation ecosystems ((AT - Styria, BG - Southeast Region, CZ - South Bohemia, Estonia, Lithuania, RO - Cluj-Napoca, SI - Western Slovenia), better connected and more sustainable, with a regionally replicable monitoring framework for the transition to sustainable food systems, complying with future EU legislation.
