The Green Facade: Why Brands Must Walk Their Environmental Talk In an era where every other brand claims to be "green" or "sustainable," it's high time we address the elephant in the room: greenwashing. As conscious consumers, we're often swayed by companies pledging to plant trees or offset carbon emissions. However, it's crucial to remember that trees take 20-30 years to mature fully. So, when a brand claims immediate environmental benefits, it's worth asking: are these promises rooted in reality or just clever marketing? The challenge doesn't stop at planting trees. True sustainability requires ongoing commitment and transparency—qualities that are often overshadowed by the allure of greenwashing. Brands genuinely dedicated to making a difference must embrace innovative solutions to prove their commitment. Enter technology partners like Zero Carbon One, who are revolutionizing the way we view and verify sustainability efforts. By leveraging blockchain technology, Zero Carbon One provides a transparent, tamper-proof ledger of carbon offsets, ensuring that every claim a company makes can be verified and traced back to its source. Their platform (https://lnkd.in/ecRazRA3) offers a glimpse into the future of environmental accountability, where consumers can see the impact of their purchases in real-time. This level of transparency is not just good for the planet; it's also good for business. In a market where consumers are increasingly skeptical of empty promises, the ability to prove your brand's commitment to real, measurable environmental impact can set you apart from the competition. So, to brands everywhere: it's time to go beyond the green facade. Invest in genuine sustainability efforts and partner with technology platforms that can help you showcase your commitment transparently. The planet—and your customers—will thank you for it. Let's not just plant trees. Let's grow a future where every green claim is as robust and verifiable as the technology that supports it. #Sustainability #Greenwashing #Blockchain #EnvironmentalImpact #ZeroCarbonOne

There have been a lot of discussions recently on how we can talk to our supply chains through natural language, but this is the first time I've seen "talking" to the circular economy! The idea of the digital passport has been around for several years, as circularity proponents seek a way to understand the life-over-life journeys of the products we all use every day. It's a simple idea: just as we have passports for international travel, what if a product could have a passport showing its critical information: components, ownership, repair, etc. Like the "car facts" or even a zillow profile for a house! The execution is not so clear. Many declare blockchain to be the solution. While this technology may play a role, there are so many other components to sort out before we talk tech. Process definition, stakeholder identification, activity capturing, component capturing.... all while most supply chains can't see into the upstream operations. There are some impressive self-spliced-together examples emerging. What have you seen that works? #supplychain #technology #leadership #blockchain https://lnkd.in/evM-FGfP

🌍 Sustainability vs. Greenwashing: How Can We Solve the Problem? As sustainability becomes a key focus for businesses, the rise of greenwashing is creating confusion and eroding trust. Companies that exaggerate their eco-friendly credentials mislead consumers, stifle real progress, and damage their reputation in the long term. To solve this, we need: Stricter regulations to hold companies accountable Third-party certifications to verify genuine sustainability Corporate transparency in environmental reporting Consumer education to empower informed choices Technology like blockchain for supply chain accountability It’s time to move past greenwashing and embrace real, measurable sustainability. 🌱 #Sustainability #ESG #Greenwashing #CorporateResponsibility #SustainableBusiness https://wix.to/STDIBEC

Explore "Circular Supply Chains" What are the problems with circular economy? Lack of regulations governing legal competition among companies. Lack of environmental awareness on the part of suppliers and clients. Economic barriers and access to financing. The problem is that current economic and regulatory frameworks incentivise linear models of production and consumption, making it challenging to adopt circular approaches. Furthermore, the circular economy requires a significant shift in the way products are designed, produced, consumed and disposed of

Let's unpack the fundamentals today, with more to come! What is the carbon marketplace? Imagine a marketplace for buying and selling something invisible: the right to pollute. This marketplace is where companies can manage their carbon footprint. There are two main sections: 💹Mandatory Market: This is like a strict teacher giving out a limited number of "pollution passes" each year. Companies that use less than their passes can sell the extras, while those who pollute more than allowed need to buy them. 🌳Optional Market: This is like a farmers market for the environment. Here, companies and even individuals can voluntarily buy "carbon credits" to offset their emissions, kind of like planting trees to clean the air. 🏦💸Why do companies need this marketplace? Companies get a certain amount of "pollution passes" each year, but some might use more than allowed due to older equipment or high production. They can't keep polluting without consequences, so they need to buy extra "pollution passes" from companies who have some to spare. Example: Imagine two companies, A and B, can each only pollute 300 tons. A will pollute 400 tons this year, while B only pollutes 200 tons. To avoid a penalty, A can buy 100 "pollution passes" from B, who has extra because they polluted less. This marketplace helps companies manage their emissions and gives them a way to become more environmentally friendly over time. 🌳💸🏦What's happening and what to look for in the world of carbon credits: 🎋Voluntary market booming: Companies aim for net-zero, driving demand for carbon credits. 🎋Standardization efforts: Building trust with consistent verification processes. 🎋Regulation coming: Governments aim to ensure market works as intended. 🎋Tech to the rescue: Blockchain improves tracking and security of carbon credits. This is just the tip of the carbon credit iceberg! Stay tuned for deeper dives into verification, types of credits, and the future of this evolving market. ESG! As I mentioned to someone at Schulich Business School on the weekend. Supply chains need blockchain transparency tracing all sources of material, manufacturing and workplace practices. Future generations will demand it. Here’s a prelude. Based on my experience and knowledge of retailing some would welcome this level of transparency others will find it difficult. Not because they wouldn’t want to but because it would raise costs and therefore prices. The competition bureau had better be right and have evidence because the damage to brands over issues like this will not be taken lightly by consumers. #retailing #strategy #ESG #lululemon #innovation #ceo #management
