A Masterclass on Pivoting as a Startup! This semester, I had the incredible opportunity to learn from Craig Lee, a serial entrepreneur, who joined our Technology Entrepreneurship class, taught by Professor ShiaoFong Yin, as a guest lecturer. His insights on navigating challenges, adapting to change, and being open to adjacent possibilities left a lasting impression on all of us. I was fortunate enough to interview him before the class and gained invaluable advice on merging sustainable technology with innovative business models, reemphasizing the importance of aligning innovation with long-term environmental goals. As a board member of the international biochar initiative (IBI), he was able to elucidate this as IBI converts biomass to biochar, sequestering carbon, but the process also creates useful bioenergy which is used to produce heat and power. This makes the whole process economically viable and environmentally focused. Moments like these remind me of the power of learning from industry leaders who have walked the path I aspire to tread. In our latest blog post, we highlight how UC Leuven-Limburg is contributing to a more sustainable and equitable future. Their action plan focuses on two key goals: 1. Contributing to a Sustainable and Just Society by collaborating with regional SMEs through research and services. 2. Cultivating an Entrepreneurial Mindset in both our students and staff. The courses “Catalyse Your Sustainability Transformation” by TUMint Energy Research GmbH and UIIN, and “Initiating and Developing a Partnership” by UIIN, have been invaluable in shaping our approach within UC Leuven-Limburg’s Action Plan.
