Day 3 of the MoonShotX Bootcamp was focused on sustainable investments and leadership, hosted at Sky Tower. Discussions were centred on how sustainability and profitability intersect and support each other. The day featured panels and working sessions that examined innovative approaches to sustainable business strategies. The day started with a presentation by Josef K. Pelikan, who shared insights on the UN's role in promoting sustainable industry and fostering innovation. He highlighted how UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization), one of InnovX's main partners, with the private sector partners to drive sustainable industrialization globally. A panel discussion on sustainability as a path to profitability followed, featuring Florin IRIMESCU and Cristian DAVID, moderated by Anca Luca. This panel explored how businesses, such as Bluana Foods (which offers plant-based alternatives to seafood), are using sustainable practices to drive growth. Florin Irimescu emphasized the importance of sustainable innovations in food industries, explaining Bluana’s development of a patented technology to create alternatives to fish like tuna and salmon, which are becoming overfished. Cristian David highlighted his work with reconditioning and reusing electronic waste at Klap , such as laptops, for resale and donation, tying sustainability with circular economy principles. In the afternoon, Daniel Dumitrescu, PhD. led a session on unlocking financial opportunities through the EU Green Deal, where he and Pawel Bochniarz discussed how businesses can navigate challenges and seize opportunities within the European Union's framework for sustainability-focused investments. Afterwards we got some insights into EU funding opportunities for sustainable innovation, particularly through the European Innovation Council (EIC). This included a discussion with Gergana Stancheva and Alexandru D. on the challenges and potential of scaling up sustainable innovations, like her company LAM'ON OOD, which produces compostable bioplastics for packaging, providing a sustainable alternative to traditional plastics. The final panel of the day, delivered by our program partner Raiffeisen Bank Romania, focused on sustainable leadership and SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), featuring Roxana Barbato, MBA, Alina Saiu and Romulus Mircea, CFA, PRM, moderated by Andreea Porojan.
