As countries prepare to submit their plans (NDCs) to reduce emissions through 2035 early next year, now it is more important than ever to set ambitious #NDCs and transition away from fossil fuels. To inform the preparation of the 2035 #NDCs, last week, the Center for Global Sustainability released a new report outlining plausible, high-ambition, and economy-wide pathways for ten major-emitting countries, suggesting a potential 35% reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions is achievable by 2035 compared to a 7% reduction in 2030 under current country NDCs. Very proud of my colleagues for their outstanding work on this analysis! Check out the report to learn more: https://lnkd.in/eGuvffhK

EU’s 2040 Climate Target: Scaling Carbon Management for a Sustainable Future • The EU’s new communication on climate has introduced an ambitious 2040 target as part of its roadmap to a fully net-zero Europe by 2050. This intermediate target is more than a checkpoint; it’s a bold vision to accelerate carbon management technologies across European industries. • Europe has long been a leader in climate action, but meeting net-zero by 2050 requires innovative strategies and intermediate milestones. By 2040, the EU aims to cut emissions by 65-75% compared to 1990 levels, setting the stage for one of the most aggressive decarbonization plans worldwide. • A central part of this strategy is carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). CCUS is expected to play a major role in reducing emissions from hard-to-abate sectors like cement, steel, and chemicals, which together account for over 20% of the EU’s CO₂ emissions. Scaling up these technologies is essential to achieving the EU’s long-term goals. • The new vision also outlines a clear investment pathway, expecting to mobilize €100 billion for carbon management infrastructure by 2040. This funding will support the expansion of storage facilities, capture technology, and transport networks, creating jobs and driving economic growth across the continent. • By setting clear targets and committing to substantial investment, the EU is not only fighting climate change but also positioning itself as a global leader in carbon management innovation. The EU’s industrial carbon strategy serves as a model for other regions to follow, showing that climate goals and industrial strength can go hand in hand. • The 2040 target represents more than just numbers – it’s a vision for a future where industrial resilience and environmental stewardship work together toward a sustainable Europe. #NetZeroGreenBharat #CarbonHydrogenX #EUClimateAction #CarbonCapture #CCUS #2040ClimateTarget #SustainableIndustry #ClimateLeadership #GreenInvestment #Decarbonization #EuropeNetZero #FutureOfIndustry
