The existing building is in a very poor state of repair and operating beyond its intended lifespan, rendering the existing apartments largely uninhabitable and the existing retail spaces below modern standards. The proposals have been designed with the local community in mind and will build on the independent businesses already thriving in the village, with the proposed modern retail units being occupied by various independent outlets not currently available. Furthermore, the high quality residential apartments proposed will add to the vitality of this part of the High Street, and will provide meaningful additional dwellings towards Elmbridge Borough Council's housing supply. These proposals are two years in the making and follow substantial levels of public engagement throughout to ensure that the right scheme for this locality was secured.
