pH, the most common and crucial test. What pH is? The measurement of H+ and OH- ions is called as pH, ranges from 0 to 14, acidic to basic, where 0 is the most acidic and 14 is the most basic, with 7 as neutral pH. Why measuring pH of a textile or leather is necessary? The pH of textile or leather is very important, as there are various chemicals, dyes and other substances used in the manufacturing, and if the pH is too high or too low, it will affect the quality of final production. Uncontrolled pH, during and after processing can affect color, texture and durability of product. It will cause uneven dye uptake, poor color fastness, uneven dying, weaken fibre and less durable product. Effect on Environment The product with High or Low pH can cause rashes or burns to human skin in contact, while this can also damage aquatic ecosystem and harm wildlife. How to measure pH? Various methods are available for the detection of pH, depending upon the matrix under observation. The pH of textile can be detected by the use of ISO 3071, or AATCC 81, while, for Leather ISO 4045 can be used.

Bio-Polishing Process, Bio-polishing refers to a pre-treatment Process of Cotton rich fabrics in exhaust process. Bio-polishing is done to remove the protruding fibers (fiber hairs)from the yarn surface by using an enzyme usually a cellulase, The impact of Bio-Polishing is similar to the Singeing process as it reduces the pilling tendency in knitted textiles.
