Wi-Fi 7 has the potential to brings unprecedented speed and low latency, enabling organizations to handle demanding applications and large-scale data transfers easier than ever. Here is my view on the current state of adoption in Switzerland 👇

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will meet with ministers today to try to resolve a 5-year impasse in Berlin over the role of Chinese suppliers in the German 5G network. Due to the lack of clarity from successive governments on this question, telecommunications operators have spent years building out the 5G network with components from Huawei, which holds a majority share of the RAN. Handelsblatt reports that a compromise is in the works that would see these components phased out over a five-year period. My understanding is that it could be seven years or even more. The UK took a similar decision four years ago. If this is the result, it will mean that the operators, above all Deutsche Telekom, have dictated Germany's 5G policy from start to finish. A remarkable example of the corporate tail wagging the political dog on an issue that is absolutely vital to Germany's security. But we have seen this before with Russian gas pipelines. There is a not insignificant risk that this could end very badly for Germany.

Swisscom is doing what it always does: gaining an unfair advantage, getting a fine from the Competition Commission, and going to the Federal Court. Watching how the semi-nationalised Internet provider repeatedly fails to play by the rules is very exciting or rather entertaining. Insight is lacking. It's a shame and embarrassing for the Swiss state, the majority owner of Swisscom, to own a majority stake in a company that doesn't play by the rules. The state has decided to intervene in the market. Everyone has to decide for themselves what to make of this. However, it is unacceptable when the Swiss state interferes in the telecoms sector and politically covers up for the biggest player, which has to defend itself repeatedly in the Federal Court. Why? Because Swisscom cannot abide by the law like the other telecom industry companies. I will take the liberty of making a prediction: This will not be the last time that Swisscom tries to gain an advantage over its competitors unlawfully. However, it is necessary and correct that even minor players like the Winterthur provider Init7 defend themselves against the "blue giant" and stand up for fair market conditions. 2.
