Well, I have to be honest and say that there does seem to be a lot of interest in hiring of Flutter mobile app devs. Especially, ones with significant experience under their belt, which I do have. The thing that flummoxes me is, the request that I immediately relocate and work out of an office in some strange, faraway city. I have two major issues with this request: One, the request that I immediately pack up and move without having spent any time at all with the company and team. 😳 This is just such an arrogant and boneheaded request in so many ways. You want me to pack up, sell the house, load the moving truck, say "Adios" to friends and family and take off to some strange city, without having even spent one day with your company and team? Who comes up with such a request? Let me guess ... the big guy whose three-letter title starts with a 'C' and ends with an 'O', with an 'E' in the middle. The other issue I have is this never-ending infatuation with having people sit in your office. That ship has sailed, dude! The train has left the station! Can we please get over this "I need my people in the office" crap! I've been working remote for the last ten years. I was working remote even before the bug, and I have a rock-solid track record of project delivery. The last time I sat in an office ( One of those horrible open-office spaces, no less ) it was a totally unproductive, miserable experience. I repeatedly remind myself "Never again!". Software devs do not need to be in your stupid office. Can we please put this issue to rest, already?! Software devs collaborate and "team build" very effectively using all of the various communication tech that is available in this year 2024. The only reason someone "needs" me to be present in an office is either to eyeball me as I'm sitting in an ergonomically-poor office chair or to smell what I had for breakfast that morning or to smell whatever deodorant I slapped on or to be able to saunter over for a chit chat which results in totally interrupting my context flow or to allow me to catch whatever cold virus is floating around or to allow me to smell my co-workers tuna casserole or to allow me to hear Bill in Sales describe how he sunk the perfect putt on hole number 8 or to hear Amy in HR complain how her Tinder date ghosted her YET AGAIN or ... you get the point. I'm not afraid to post this on LI because I know there are smart and excellent managers out there that "Get it" and I would love to work for one of them. I know they're out there because I've had the pleasure of working with a couple of them. And, I hope one is reading this post now and reaches out to me and perhaps I will soon be working with one again. I can guarantee you, my work productivity will not disappoint and you will probably get more "collaboration" out of me than you know what to do with.
