On September 24, 2024, the China-Africa Business Council visited YK Law New York. We engaged in discussions about legal services for Chinese companies in the US and Africa, exploring the current market conditions and legal frameworks for these companies, as well as the prospects for cross-border legal services. The expansion and globalisation of Chinese businesses present new opportunities and challenges for the legal sector. My paper "The Hague Rules on Business and Human Rights Arbitration: Navigating the Prospects for a Potential Application in Nigeria" recently got published at the The Jurist Law Journal. The paper assessed the potential applicability of the Hague Rules on Business and Human Rights Arbitration in Nigeria in resolution of human rights disputes using arbitration particularly with regards to business and commercial contracts. On this premise, issues such as the jurisdiction of an arbitral tribunal on human rights abuses, exercise of right of access to court as it applies to arbitral tribunals and challenges that may arise on the constitutional right of public hearing (including human rights cases) as against the confidentiality of arbitral proceedings in arbitrating human right cases were discussed therein. Also, the prospects of the Hague Rules in settling business and human rights disputes in Nigeria were looked at. Enjoy🥂
