“Walking the Talk” – When expertise meets engagement, chamber organisations can become much more than the sum of their members. Case in point: the GCC Sustainability Working Group! 🌏🌱 Established last year, the Working Group regularly brings together experienced and dedicated professionals from our member companies to discuss current trends and develop solutions with regards to implementing sustainable business practices along the value chain. Thank you to Nina Starklauf and Violaine Balland for organising The Sustainable Procurement Pledge event last night in Singapore focusing on Supply Chain Due Diligence. Great to see this important topic get the focus it deserves in Asia as the EU regulations will have ripple effects, impacting all companies. Last week's ProcureCon Asia & Australia in Singapore was a great event, echoing similar themes from the Sydney event back in May. My key takeways: ⚖ ESG should be seen as an integrated methodology for driving business strategy. The 'E', and in particular, greenhouse gas emissions are still the core focus for most procurement professionals. Jonathan Cheung, (张英杰) FCIPS (Chartered)/CITP (Chartered IT Professional) of CIPS provocatively pointed out, most people stick to the ‘E’ because it’s what they know, the 'S' and 'G' can be trickier and therefore get less of the spotlight. 💡 My personal highlight was Matthew Friedman’s impassioned keynote on the importance of businesses tackling human rights abuses, with 60% of modern day slaves believed to exist within corporate supply chains. This total projection currently stands at 30,000,000 people, more than the population of Australia, with the latest projects for global slavery up to 50,000,000 people. We can all work to address this, procuring responsibly and deploying the appropriate due diligence. 🔁 For all the talk of AI, and the future of procurement technologies, it is clear collaboration is necessary to achieve real change and the expertise available within the procurement community is still vital. Relationships are as important as ever. 🤝 As ever, great to meet new people who are actively looking for robust, comprehensive solutions to help mitigate risk and drive improvement within their supply chains. The European due diligence legislation is definitely increasing awareness and raising the importance of this topic here in Asia. #supplychainsustainability #sustainableprocurement #supplychainduediligence #tprm
