You have a groundbreaking idea that you want to bring to the market..................... FAST However, the process of developing a new product can be time-consuming, especially when it involves a wide range of engineering skills, including software engineers, mechanical engineers, and electronic engineers, to name a few. Assessing your resource capabilities and availability is essential to ensure the quickest delivery time. Most of the time, particular skills are either unavailable in-house or entirely committed to other projects. In such cases, you have several alternatives for filling in the capability gap or completely outsourcing development, including finding a business partner to collaborate with: 1️⃣ Hiring independent engineers 2️⃣ Working with a design consulting company 3️⃣ or EMS as your design services partner. One way to expedite the process is to utilize a contract manufacturer (EMS). This approach offers many benefits, including employing components from preferred vendors and ensuring that the product cost is reduced from the outset. Additionally, experience in manufacturing can provide value by guaranteeing that the design will be simple to produce and fast. They may also assist in expanding production globally. What other methods have you found effective in developing new products? Industrial Engineer Randy Timmermans, has the ambition to grow into an expert in the field of production methods and process optimisation, and eventually to lead a continuous improvement team. ''I find myself exactly at the cross-section between engineering and (business) processes. This ensures that I am concerned with understanding both product design, assembly, qualification, and the logistics. Based on these elements, I design and optimise the factory layout to produce as efficiently and effectively as possible. Here, it is important to have both tactical and human insight to initiate change step-by-step. When we are going to improve something, it often means changing things. By ensuring I both know the theory and practice, I make sure the change is supported by all layers of the organisation to minimise the challenge of the change itself. Randy’s background in Industrial Engineering & Management comes in handy when translating products from Design, through protobuilds to Volume-production. ‘’In my current role as an Industrial Engineer, I am involved in this full-time, working on several product groups. The Semicon market is special due to the relatively low production volumes, but high mix and complexity of products. This requires a good understanding of the assembly of the products, and the process design for the production. The organisation is experiencing growth, which means the role of Industrial Engineer is developing rapidly.’’ #werkenbijVDL #hightech #engineering
