Dual enrollment holds the power to transform educational pathways for underrepresented students, opening doors to college earlier and paving the way for long-term success. But to unlock its full potential, colleges must lean on data. By analyzing enrollment trends, completion rates, and student outcomes, institutions can identify gaps in access and success, particularly for underserved populations. Data can reveal which students are benefiting most from dual enrollment and where additional support is needed to close equity gaps. This recent article from CC Daily highlights what underrepresented students are looking for in dual enrollment programs—and how to ensure these opportunities lead to real student success. https://lnkd.in/gR3Eddvd #DualEnrollment #StudentSuccess #Equity #CommunityCollege #Comm_college #HigherEducation #HigherEd #CommunityColleges

This article got me thinking about my new vlog with Suzanne Greenfield. As #educators, we know that "teachers know what they need. They know what works," and students are equally capable of identifying what supports their learning journey. The recent insights into the pandemic's impact on K-12 students highlight the challenges our education system faces. Despite these hurdles, district #leaders are working hard to help #students discover fulfilling careers while maintaining core skills. Initiatives like academic recovery efforts and competency-based education models underscore the need to adapt to diverse student needs. We must remain dedicated to creating environments where every student can thrive, whether through traditional pathways or more unconventional methods. Let's empower educators, support students, and pave the way for a brighter future. This article highlights a longstanding challenge (and presents some strategies as well) that institutions of higher education have been grappling with for years: how can we effectively support student learning and preparedness while delivering a return on investment that students and families find worthwhile? Even before the pandemic, colleges and universities struggled with ensuring students knew how to study effectively, understood the resources available to them, and transitioned smoothly into the collegiate environment. First-year seminars, orientations, and pre-college programs have helped bridge these gaps, but now, as we witness an increasing number of students struggling in the classroom, the question becomes more pressing: How do we provide support that is both accessible and valued by students? Non-credit-bearing classes, extra study hours, and first-year seminars can serve as temporary solutions, but students often view them as obstacles rather than opportunities. How do we, as educators, ensure that students see the value in these resources? How can we better promote access to peer tutors, writing centers, mental health support, and the development of strong study skills throughout the curriculum? It's a critical conversation that requires innovative thinking and a commitment to student success. https://lnkd.in/ePtR9NFB

For student parents, balancing education, work, and family is a delicate juggling act. These students are often single mothers, working full-time while attending community college, and they make up about 1 in 5 learners. Yet, most colleges fail to offer the support systems that would allow them to thrive. In this Inside Higher Ed article, Amber Angel from ECMC Foundation explains, ‘It’s not about whether or not they’re committed or they’re hardworking. It’s more about having supports and visibility.’ With accessible policies, child-friendly spaces, and holistic support, we can ensure student parents no longer feel invisible on campus. It’s time to build institutions where all learners, especially those with families, feel seen and supported. 💙 https://lnkd.in/gRFS9FV9 #highered #highereducation #educationforall #studentsuccess #adultlearners #parentstudents #collegeaccess #onlinelearning #workingmoms #inclusiveeducation #setupforsuccess #retentionstrategies #emchat #edtech #accesstoeducation #supportingstudents

Over the past few years, #highereducation #practitioners have noticed differences in how today’s #students learn compared to their peers, some disparities directly attributed to the #pandemic and others a symptom of isolation and #onlinelearning. Rather than asking students to catch up and mold to #highered’s traditional structures, experts in the field are asking, are #colleges set up to help students succeed?
