#Throwback to #XRAccess2023! Hrishikesh Mulay is a postgraduate researcher at University College Dublin. Last year at the 2023 XR Access Symposium, he presented on the capabilities and potential use cases of annotated lip reading systems for #XR. This project focused on emerging technologies (Augmented and Virtual Reality – AR/VR) to identify the impact of an Automated Lip Reading System within XR Educational Systems. It considered embedding a 3D avatar within an augmented educational system, with the capacity of semi-supervised learning, to generate and manipulate fabricated data from the real input data. The aim was to identify how #AR or #VR (as an alternative) could assist with the collection of data through an immersive environment. This year, we had the incredible opportunity to showcase our brain-art demo at #CES2025 in Las Vegas, where live brain signals from our brand-new audio-capable brain-sensing earbuds powered a mesmerising particle flow together with spatial audio. The experience combined detected eye movements and jaw clenches to intuitively control audio and visuals, creating a neurofeedback journey like no other. With the support of Analog Devices advanced analog front-end technology, we demonstrated how hands-free control can redefine interaction with technology. Pushing the Boundaries of Accessibility During MIT RealityHack25, Angel Peredo, Tomme Denney, Nasif Zaman and I set out to tackle a major accessibility challenge: how visually impaired individuals interact with art and architecture. The result was HaptiDraw, a tool that empowers these individuals to engage with art and blueprints using vector-based mapping, tactile and haptic feedback to “feel” diagrams on a 2D plane extending comprehension beyond textual description. HaptiDraw wouldn’t have been possible without Haptikos Exoskeleton V1, Logitech MX-Ink Stylus and Meta Quest powering it.
