HDF Energy had the privilege to participate in the 2024 Clean Energy 4 EU Islands Forum held on 14-15 May in Pantelleria, Italy. Our representatives, Georgios Exarchou and Juan Bernabeu, showcased our commitment to sustainable energy solutions. 🌿 CE4EU Islands, an initiative of the European Commission, serves as a central platform for advancing the clean energy transition across over 2,200 inhabited European islands. ➡ This year's focus on building resilience through #renewables was paramount, emphasizing energy security and reliability amid the transition of insular grids and systems. ✨ Georgios presented our flagship solution, the Renewstable #greenhydrogen power plant model, highlighting its capacity to decarbonize insular grids and facilitate grid balancing. Its baseload and non-intermittent output, along with sector coupling synergies in mobility, are pivotal in driving sustainable transformations. #CleanEnergy #RenewableEnergy #EnergyTransition #Sustainability

Yesterday, the World Economic Forum organised a European Grids Roundtable in collaboration with ENTSO-E and the International Energy Agency (IEA) hosted at our office in Brussels 💡 ➡️ #NoTransitionWithoutTransmission: Participants recognised that grids play a key role in the energy transition and are vital to the deployment of renewable energy across Europe and beyond. ➡️In the EU, the Action Plan for Grids is leading the way towards securing our 2030 targets and more efficient grids rolled out further and faster. Globally, we need a doubling of grids deployment by 2030 and €130 billion of investment in just the next 5 years. ➡️The roundtable explored possible routes to secure this investment and make the transition possible. Europe is in a strong position already with forward planning projects such as the TYNDP and ONDP and ENTSO-E are working on scaling-up smarter and more efficient grids across Europe. ➡️All of this will need further coordinated planning, financing and supply chains, including securing the right skills to action the transition. ENTSO-E is proud to be a part of the creating a power system for a carbon neutral Europe and we were honoured to welcome representatives from industry and civil society for these important discussions including those featured below: - Kristen Panerali, Head of Clean Power, Grids and Electrification, World Economic Forum (WEF); - Sonya Twohig, Secretary-General, ENTSO-E; - Tinne Van der Straeten, Minister of Energy, Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2024; - Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Energy, European Commission; - Keisuke Sadamori, Director of Energy Markets and Security, International Energy Agency (IEA); - Damian Cortinas, Chair of the ENTSO-E Board Many thanks to all those involved for your contributions to the debate, we look forward to future collaboration! 👏

National Grid is paving the way for a more sustainable future with LionLink and Nautilus, the UK's first hybrid interconnectors. These projects combine offshore wind power with international energy exchange, enhancing grid flexibility and advancing decarbonisation.   What’s the News? Regulatory approval from Ofgem for these projects means a brighter, cleaner future for millions. LionLink (connecting the UK to the Netherlands) and Nautilus (linking to Belgium) will deliver a whopping 3.2GW of capacity—enough to power 4.2 million homes. By integrating offshore wind farms and interconnecting national grids, these innovations lead to cleaner, more affordable energy while improving energy security.   The Benefits:   Consumer Savings: £674 million in the first 10 years. Reduced Carbon Emissions: Optimising renewable energy flow cuts reliance on fossil fuels. Enhanced Energy Security: Creating robust links between nations boosts resilience to supply fluctuations.   How It Works: Hybrid interconnectors serve a dual purpose by harnessing offshore wind energy and facilitating electricity trade between countries.
