📌 The European Institute for Gender Equality's report highlights that closing the gender gap in STEM education could reduce the skills gap, enhance women's employment and productivity, and lessen occupational segregation. 📚 The “R&I PEERS- Pilot experiences for improving gender equality in research organisations” project, developed by the University of Salerno in Italy, has identified and studied successful efforts to remove unconscious barriers to female participation in scientific research in the Mediterranean. I am happy to share that I have obtained a new certification on "I know gender equality 1-2-3 International Frameworks for Gender and promoting gender equality through the UN system." from UN Women. Some key and main topics were on; • Identifying key components of the social construction of gender. • Ways in which social systems have perpetuated inequalities between men and women. • Identifying mechanisms used for promoting gender equality. • Strategies to promote gender equality : this is mostly done through gender mainstreaming. • Promoting positive masculinity. • UN- SWAP 2.0; Which is a unified framework that applies equally to all entities of the United Nations system. 2) International Framework of #genderequality which brought about #CEDAW which was adopted in 1979 and it's obligation to eliminate inequality and achieve gender equality. Beijing Declaration (1995) and Declaration of the Elimination of Violence Against Women (1993). My takeaways were: 1)Ensuring equal representation of women and men is a mandate. 2) Identifying places where intervention is required to mitigate risk and promote full inclusion. 3) Ensuring accountability and resilience. 4) Ways of reforming discriminatory laws. 5) Ways of advocating for anatomy and participation. #blackgirlsyourdreamsarevalid

❓ What does taking a gender-transformative approach mean? ⚡ This is a question frequently put to Fabulous Feminists Founder Lucy Ferguson within her role as a gender equality expert. She explains: "In essence, it is about tackling the root causes of gendered inequalities." 📑 The attached Technical Note by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) gives clear and detailed guidance, and explains that while there is not one definitive solution for every situation, a gender-transformative approach can be applied to all situations. This insightful document highlights concrete examples of successful gender-transformative programming. 📢 “Gender-transformative approaches support gender equality by explicitly addressing the underlying causes of gender inequality.” UNICEF defines their approach with these three key points: ↪ Apply a human rights-based approach ↪ Place women and girls at the centre ↪ Take a positive approach to male engagement 🌍 As part of the UN Women Gender Mainstreaming Training Package, Lucy has been providing training on gender-transformative results for a range of UN entities including UNESCO, International Labour Organization, World Food Programme and UNEP-WCMC. I came across this video that urges us to create spaces and environments where everyone, regardless of gender, can contribute to and flourish. The video - https://lnkd.in/dy2kAmrP was created by CARTAfrica and features the African Population and Health Research Center. It is my favourite, and here is why. 📌 It features powerful CARTA graduates who speak about how they managed to advance their careers while raising their children and the importance of flexibility in pursuing education or in workspaces. There are key points that we must ponder. 📌Although significant strides have been made toward gender equality, more efforts are needed. This shift requires women to take charge of issues that matter to them. No ifs, and no buts. 📌Education, work hours, and working conditions are essential for mothers to advance their careers. 📌Social impact organizations should strive for gender equity both within and outside of their organizations. #WomensMonth #IWD
