The National Day Parade - it is almost a ritual yearly for many: to come together for a meal while watching the parade on TV - singing the parade songs (we have many in Singapore), enjoying the show segments and the fireworks. The outcome is a sense of commitment and confidence to building Singapore together. Here's the thing: Many would believe such practices are a waste and of no use. Yet, even in religion, there are rituals and those rituals can bring people to tears and give hope. My point is this: Rituals ARE important. They can communicate confidence, commitment, belief in oneself or in a team that we CAN be successful even if the task is difficult. Takeaway: The same can be placed in organizations everywhere. During sales cycle end dates, do you have rituals that give confidence to the team? When your projects are facing challenges, how do you enhance confidence in each other so your teams don't lose hope? It starts with rituals. What are your teams' rituals that give you confidence? #mangoesonline #diaryofatrainer #rituals

The festival of color is just two days away!!! 😊 RMB LOGISTIC wishes you and your family a very colorful & vibrant HOLI!! Holi is one of the major festival of India and is the most vibrant of all. The joys of Holi knows no bound. The festival is celebrated across the four corners of India or rather across the globe. The festival is filled with so much fun and frolic that the very mention of the word 'Holi' draws smile and enthusiasm amongst the people. Holi also celebrates the arrival of Spring, a season of joy and hope. With the throwing of colored powder and water balloons, Holi has become known as India’s most vivid, joyous festival. International travel groups selling tours to the country often place photos of boisterous Holi celebrations. Although the Hindu festival of colors finds its origins in South Asia, it has now gained popularity across the world, with Holi events organized across the U.S., the U.K. and elsewhere. #holi #holi2024 #rmblogistic #foreignshipments #freightforwarders

Celebrating Cultural Diversity: Embracing South Indian Traditions as a Northerner Coming from North India, I’ve always been surrounded by a rich tapestry of traditions, festivals, and attire. However, living in the South has given me an incredible opportunity to dive into a whole new world of culture, and it’s been a joy to immerse myself in the vibrant customs here. Recently, I had the chance to dress up in traditional South Indian attire for a celebration, and it was more than just about wearing something different—it was about appreciating and respecting the local customs. From wearing a veshti to understanding the significance of each festival like Onam, the experience has deepened my appreciation for the diversity that makes our country so special. As professionals, it’s important to embrace diversity—not just in the workplace but also in the cultural experiences that shape who we are. Every culture brings its own uniqueness to the table, and the more we understand and celebrate these differences, the more connected and enriched we become. Living in a country as diverse as India offers endless opportunities to learn from one another, break boundaries, and grow together. Here’s to celebrating unity in diversity! ✨ #CulturalDiversity #SouthIndianCulture #UnityInDiversity #TraditionalAttire #CulturalCelebration #EmbraceChange #InclusiveWorkplace

𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝𝐬: 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐉𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 Who knew these two cultures, worlds apart, had so much in common? As I've explored both Japanese and Indian traditions, I've discovered fascinating parallels that highlight our shared human experiences. I often read Naotaka Nishiyama san's post highlighting similarities between the 2 cultures. It is my turn today: 💡 Here's what I've observed: 🙏 Emphasis on Respect and Harmony Both cultures deeply value social harmony and respect for elders, traditions, and nature. 🌺 Connection to Nature and Seasonal Traditions Japan and India both celebrate festivals and foods marking seasonal changes, particularly the transition from autumn to winter or to even celebrate summer. Their traditions often draw inspiration from natural phenomena 🌳⛰️ 🎵 Rich Artistic Traditions Both these countries have a very rich artistic presence in terms of their handicrafts, fabrics, art, music. One striking similarity is the presence of doll festivals in both cultures: - In Japan, the Hinamatsuri (Doll Festival or Girls' Day) showcases elaborate doll displays. - In India, the Golu tradition during Navaratri features similar doll arrangements. 🦹🦹 Both these festivals serve to preserve and pass down traditional customs and aesthetics to younger generations. As we celebrate the 9th day of our beautiful Golu and welcoming autumn, I'm reminded of how different cultures can foster curiosity and openness to new perspectives. My dear friend Yuka Shiono's doll arrangement for Hinamatsuri struck a chord, highlighting the beautiful parallels between our traditions. 🌏These similarities remind us that despite geographical distances, our cultures share common threads that connect us all. Let's celebrate these connections and continue to learn from one another! #JapanIndiaCulture #Diversity #IndiaJapanFriendship #CulturalExchange #Unity

#ThoughtThursday 1. 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐞? 𝐀𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲? Deepavali, a festival of lights, as they call, is deeply rooted in diverse Indian culture and is celebrated by the Indian diasporic communities in various countries. However, the attempts made by the countries particularly in the West to exhibit a secular attitude or show appreciation for this festive culture has resulted in cultural appropriation due to several factors, out of which, the three of the major, which I think are: 1. 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭 First and foremost, there is a lack of knowledge, awareness or research about the cultural narratives and origins of Deepavali. For instance, it is often broadly labeled as a South-Asian festival in the West, without acknowledging the specific geographical and cultural roots within India. 2. 𝐀𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 Secondly, there prevails a preference for aesthetics over authenticity. This phenomenon is not limited to Deepavali but many such festive customs with deep cultural significance are often 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬. Elegant or grand outfits and decorations are used for social media likes and reach, which I view as a form of cultural appropriation, 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐥. 3. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 Finally, a consumerist attitude prevails. The manufacturing of products aimed at sales and profit targets the diaspora community, 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧. This consumerist attitude coupled with other political factors, contributes to the marginalization of the true essence of the festival. As the result of cultural appropriation, as the Nigerian author, 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚 𝐍𝐠𝐨𝐳𝐢 𝐀𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞 warns, 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚 𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚 . When a culture and its festive customs are superficially adopted, the 𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐚 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝, 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 that is unjust and inaccurate, marginalizing authentic voices and narratives. 𝑨𝒑𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒄𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆, 𝒄𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒅𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚! Imagine a world devoid of colors, where everything is monochromatic and dull. Such a scenario would strip away the richness our existence, wouldn’t it? Welcome to Holi, often referred to as the "Festival of Colors," that holds immense significance in Indian culture. India is deeply rooted in its culture and traditions. There are many festivals in India aimed at strengthening social ties and celebrating cyclical life of nature, Holi is one such festival that marks the transition from winter to spring, symbolizing the cycle of renewal and change. On this day, social barriers are momentarily forgotten and people from all walks of life come together. People gather together to smear each other with dry colors and water colors, creating a spectacular display. The festival is celebrated with immense enthusiasm. I am sharing a picture of myself from a recent Holi celebration in New Jersey, USA where I am beating drums on an instrument called Tasha. To me, Holi is not just a festival of colors; it's also a celebration of friendship, the spirit of togetherness and letting go of grudges. Today's world is becoming increasingly complex (and uncertain and chaotic, at times) – be it due wars, globalization, technological advances, political polarization, social media spread of misinformation, inflationary worries or cultural divides. The more I started thinking about it, the more I realized the deeper meaning the Holi festival holds and the way it can act as a great equalizer in today’s modern times. 👇 #change #mindful #celebratelife
