Here's a hard lesson I learned about keeping a business afloat during uncertain times 👇 Beginning a role as UK Sales Manager, I had been made promises of a diversified clientele... Only for it to turn out our business clung overwhelmingly to the telecoms market. A flaw later made clear by the 'telecoms crash' of 2002. So we got to work trying to broaden our customer base, even so the fallout was substantial - we lost more than a third of our business almost overnight! Armed with sales expertise but still a novice in business management, I learned a pivotal lesson... Don't put all your eggs in one basket. A dispersed customer base, across multiple industries, will shield against unforeseen challenges. I understand as an #SME it can (initially) be hard to get your voice heard above larger concerns.
