Sunday is National Herpes Awareness Day in the US and a crucial reminder of the importance of education, awareness, and access to treatment for herpes infections. While herpes can often be managed in immunocompetent individuals, we must not overlook those who face greater challenges—such as individuals undergoing medical treatments that suppress their immune systems or those with immunodeficiencies. It is essential that research into new treatments for drug-resistant strains takes into account the serious impact this virus can have on overall health and well-being. AiCuris is currently advancing pritelivir, a treatment for acyclovir-resistant HSV, in a pivotal Phase 3 study, providing hope for those with limited therapeutic options. 🌍 Today, on World Pneumonia Day 2024, let's unite to protect lives against one of the most devastating – yet preventable – diseases. 🌍 Pneumonia claims the lives of over 700,000 children under the age of five each year and remains a top cause of death among older adults and immunocompromised individuals globally. This disease often strikes the most vulnerable communities, where access to healthcare, vaccines, and early diagnosis is limited. 🔹 Why should we care? Pneumonia is preventable and treatable. With timely vaccines, better access to healthcare, and supportive interventions, we can prevent thousands of deaths every year. However, the battle against pneumonia requires global attention, funding, and policy changes to make healthcare more equitable and accessible. 🔹 How can we make a difference? To protect lives, we must raise awareness, support vaccine distribution, and strengthen healthcare systems worldwide. By sharing knowledge and resources, advocating for policies, and supporting organizations working tirelessly to end pneumonia, we can collectively work towards reducing the impact of this disease on families and communities. 🔹 Join the movement: Visit https://lnkd.in/djuNzAJk Stop Pneumonia to learn how you can be part of the solution. Every voice and action counts in the fight for a healthier world. Together, let's work towards a future where everyone – regardless of their age, location, or background – can live without the fear of pneumonia. 💙 #WorldPneumoniaDay #StopPneumonia #GlobalHealth #HealthForAll #EndPneumonia #PublicHealth

#RSV is the world's top cause of severe respiratory infections and hospitalization in young children—responsible for 1 in every 28 deaths occurring before six months of age. A new maternal vaccine and long-acting monoclonal antibody could help change that! Experts—including PATH's Clint Pecenka, Ranju Baral, and Jessica Fleming—explain in The Lancet. Every country should have the opportunity to choose which product best fits the needs of its population and its health system. That’s why ensuring that these products can be available, affordable, and accessible is so important, especially for countries with low- and middle-income economies where nearly all RSV deaths occur. Read the article to learn about the new RSV interventions and the challenges and opportunities on the road to their global authorization and implementation. Also included are spotlights from Argentina, Kenya, and Spain that bring different contexts and perspectives to life. https://lnkd.in/exTJpAmZ

In this study, experts, including PATH explore the regulatory, policy, implementation pathways and intervention uptake of RSV vaccines and monoclonal antibodies in Spain and Argentina including in Kenya. Beyond this, PATH and WHO are engaged through the Advancing Maternal Immunization (AMI) collaboration to develop a more detailed gap analysis describing the evidence, information, and policy needs of global and country decision-makers, public health program planners and implementers involved in decision-making and introducing maternal RSV vaccines.
