The myEDIT-B blood test is the first CE-marked and clinically validated test for differential diagnosis of unipolar depression and bipolar disorder. It has excellent performance (>80%) and is already available in Italy and France, via the distributor, SYNLAB. The test will gradually be available all throughout Europe.
The test complements existing clinical scales and integrates into clinical workflows, enabling clinicians to select therapeutic treatments and reduce diagnosis delays from 8 years to 4 weeks.
MyEDIT-B measures RNA editing changes of specific markers in the blood using a unique algorithm developed by ALCEDIAG.
The test is prescribed by a physician (psychiatrist or GP) and then the patient's blood is drawn in a SYNLAB laboratory. Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) is performed on the sample, and the results are uploaded to a secure ALCEDIAG platform for analysis. The report is sent back by SYNLAB to the physician within 4 weeks.

myEDIT-B is the first clinically validated test for the differential diagnosis of bipolar disorder and unipolar depression, signaling a paradigm shift in the identification of this mental disorder and thus increasing the effectiveness of the treatment approach. myEDIT-B is the result of a collaboration between the diagnostics company ALCEDIAG and SYNLAB under the EU's EIT Health program. The innovative test Is already available in Italy since October 2023 and in France since April 2024.

EDIT-B: first-in-class CE-marked blood test differentiating bipolar disorder from major depression
Bipolar disorder is so difficult to diagnose because it is often confused with depression, anxiety disorders, addictions or personality disorders. Misdiagnosed patients may receive inappropriate treatment that will not alleviate their symptoms and may even worsen their physical and mental health condition. To date, there is no regulatory compliant biological assessment tool, for the diagnosis of bipolar disorder that physicians can use in clinical routine.
