1 Billion in VR? Yes, But only when the Content & User Experience are addressed

Yesterday, at Oculus Connect 4 in San Jose, California, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg put a stake in the sand with his proclamation “We’re setting a goal: we want to get a billion people in virtual reality.”   He also introduced a new Oculus Go headset due for release in 2018 and priced at an attractive $200USD while permanently reducing the price of the Oculus Rift.

We’re thrilled for this.  But like many, we think the content and user experience is just as important as the hardware.  Oculus, Vive and Playstation VR have dominated the VR headlines but we believe this all about to change.

We’re only going to reach 1 Billion users if we really start addressing the user experience.  Not just repurposed games designed for non-VR systems, or a 2 minute journey underwater, or a stationary movie experience, but that truly awesome blend of storytelling, animation, sound, and VR technology to create a totally immersive - and totally impactful - experience.

Remember the first console game you played, the first PC game, the first movie with surround sound?  They all made an impact; essentially they created a memory.

Virtual reality, I mean, really good virtual reality should create that same memorable experience.  And in a world that increasingly strives for memorable experiences, Mark Zuckerberg, is, in my opinion, 100% on target.  Yes, bring on the hardware, but don’t forget the content and user experience.

We are launching our first VR game this fall and welcome your feedback on how well it stacks up in the truly great VR experience awards.

Run Dorothy Run VR game challenges players to move to the rhythm of the electroswing music while they collect the crystal chards in our endless runner game with a modern twist on the classic novel the Wonderful Wizard of Oz.  It's been described as a game that truly reflects the immersive fun of VR.  www.rundorothyrunvr.com
